Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Just took the kids to see the new version. I love Johnny Depp and Tim Burton.

My description to my husband of it was "the 1st one on herione!"
Now thatdoesn't mean I didn't like it! I did! and my girls weren't scared of the boat scene like the 1st. But I think the orignal magic was lost though.

But boy did I laugh my butt off! it was really funny!

Anyone else see it? what did youthink!?

I took my daughter last night. I thought the movie on a whole was better then the first. I really liked the ending. I love Tim Burton movies.
But the first Willie Wonka was better, Johnny Depp acted a bit to much like M. Jackson. A little to creepy for me. I kept wondering what his TRUE intention was with poor Charlie.

LOL Lynda, that thought crossed my mind, too...

I thought the movies was tons better than the first. Great graphics and music. A little weird, but very good. Not as good as Sky High, though.

I have to say that I liked the first one better. I, too, thought that Johnny Depp played a much creepier Willy Wonka. I also liked the old "umpa-loompas" better, when they all weren't the same little man. I also enjoyed the musical score from the first movie better. I did think that the graphics and effects were good, but that is not even a fair comparison since they had none of that high tech stuff back when they made the first one. JMHO

The kids were all very well done. The factory and Charlie's house were brilliant. But Gene Wilder can rest easy ... Willy Wonka should NOT wear lipstick and mascara, neh? He looked like Gina Davis.

J. Depp did a good job with the script, but he was not any more sympathetic of a character than any of the bratty kids. The original Wonka was eccentric, but this rendition was just a head-case drag queen.

I havent seen it but will wait untill it comes out on DVD. I loved the first movie so I hope the new one isnt that butchered. I also dont like the way J Depp looks.

Now I wonder if anyone will do a remake of the other movie I love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The icecream man scares the sh*t out of me even to this day. LOL My son Zack who is 5 loves this movie also and watches it all the time.

Oh No! There is no way they could ever make a good remake of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They can't make musicals now like they did back then. Plus no one could ever match how scary the icecream man and no one could ever equal Dick Van Dyke. I shudder at the thought. Some movies you just don't mess with. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins and Wizard of Oz are all untouchables.

The problem with both movies is that they stray too far from Roald Dahls book. Its very creepy and very dark. In fact, in the book, the Oompa Loompas are pigmy cannibals!

I know Johnny Depp (my hot rod was in one of his movies) and met him when he was filming Crybaby and doing 21 Jump Street. He's a really interesting guy. He actually did this role because he wanted to do something for his own little kids.

I think that BOTH movies are brilliant. They are just different interpretations. Certainly the second one is closer to what Mr. Dahl had in mind. It just gets curiouser and cruiouser

I agree, with Phil on many points. I thought the children were very well done. And I thought Violet Beauregarde mother was hilarious! The look's she gave cracked me up. However, some of the children looked very fake, and it was plain weird, lol!

I also enjoyed the first movies Oompa Loopma's better, and thought these Oompa Loompa's were, creepy. And they're musicals...lmao...those were interesting!

<AND>

"The original Wonka was eccentric, but this rendition was just a head-case drag queen". LMAO PHIL!

LOL! He is scarey! I just don't think these remakes can live up to the magic of the orignals! Although I love seeing them try!
