Dog people Cat people Bird people

I just have birds I've had dogs in the past and cats. I was wondering when I go to message boards for birds and read internet info on bird issues it seems like people get a bit well passionate on there views of what to feed how to feed and care of birds. I was wondering does anyone go to other animal boards and people are the same way? Like going on and on about what dog food to use. I'm not saying that any animal deserves less than the best. I was just wondering. And nobody take offense. I love bird people

I am a member of another board, and before my family got our first dog (it was actually years ago since we've had one, so the first one in over 10 years), I had told the board that we were looking into a dog. I explained what type of dog that I'd like personally (a husky) and some of the members somewhat went out on me saying that long haired dogs don't do well in hot climates, they need to be groomed twice a week, and some other things. Well, we ended up getting some shep mix pup that had short hair. We didn't pick him out, and because of that, the dog ended up not being a good fit for our family, so we had to get rid of him.

Currently, we have Bullet, part lab/chow/shep?, long haired of course, with a short tail (not stubby, not long). It's a pain to give him a back, and our trimmers we bought for him no longer work for him as these trimmers were more designed for smooth hair, and Bullet has thick, wirey hair. There is a specific type of food that I would prefer to feed him (one that would prevent some of the internal problems that the cheaper foods over time can cause) however, we simply don't have the money to feed him the amount that he eats of this food. Saying that however, he enjoys getting scraps of food from the table, and both the cats and him usually get a can of wet food in the morning.

As far as anything, I remember one girl about the same age as myself telling me that I should not even consider breeding birds, and that it takes a lot of hard work. She had mentioned that I shouldn't be breeding them because it'll only be bringing in more unwanted birds into the world. She was breeding lovebirds. It took her several months later to realise she was doing something that she told me not to do and ended up selling her breeding pairs and giving away her supplies to a rescue (or so she said she would).

Carrie,

You bet dog people are just as passionate about their furry kids as we are about our feathered ones! I'm a member of a general dog board, as well as a chihuahua board, and both are filled with active, loving people. On any given day you'll hear about vet visits, first trips to the groomer, what diet to feed, how to train - everything you would see here, except with dogs.

Well, my s.o thinks that the people we meet in the bird store are almost cultist like in their weird bird fanaticism and I admit I also find their...enthusiasm somewhat emotionally draining when I'm there.

As stated you will find people to be fanatical about their chosen feathered or furred kids. A person I grew up with now raises poodles in So. Cal. and we recently swapped emails for a while and she went on and on about why I should convert my dogs to a raw food diet and the disservice that I was doing to them otherwise. Cats, well....they're cats.

I'm a cat person through and through. Aside from my 2 kitties, we have cats and dogs here at the house on any given dayI don't really belong to any cat-specific boards but I am pretty active on Petfinder in cat/dog discussions.

I am very interested in cat and dog nutrition and am converting my cats over to a raw diet. Being a biology geek, I enjoy learning about all sorts of pet topics.

A couple weeks ago, I was trying to cheer up a friend and went to a snake board just to see if they are as crazy about snakes as we are about birds. Not quite, but there were a few pics of "cute" baby snakes, feeding and housing tips. I think it was www.kingsnake.com or something like that, I googled it. I wonder if they call ther pets "SIDS" as in slithery kids, slimy kids or whatever!
