The Too momma!

As most of you know, I love the cockatoos - I have 3 and am going to be adding another one to my flock as soon as gas prices, and availability, stablize!
My thought, last night, was to rehome my b&g macaws and have a house full of cockatoos. After much thought, it isn't going to happen. I love the macaws way to much. My heart really is in the cockatoos, however, these two macaws are also such a big part of my life; granted, Tinker would rather bite the snot out of me than have anything to do with me, but hey - who can blame her? It really is a love triangle here!
When I turn the light on in the morning and go about my business I hear my voice - "whatever, you are alright" "step up" "good boy" etc, etc. I can't even fathom what my day would be like without those sweetly said words from the macaws!
So those of you who thought you would get Tinker and Elwood - sorry - aint' gonna happen anytime soon. I can't bear to let them go!
The cockatoo momma has spoken!

Well, thank goodness, MY prayers were answered. I must be living right. I was so upset that you were even thinking about parting with your blue babies that I had trouble sleeping. I know that having a house full of noisy, destructive birds can make you want to pull your hair out (you've seen mine ) but you are absolutely right about how awful it is to come home to a "quiet house". Toos have their wonderful qualities and so do macaws They are very different creatures. Isn't it wonderful!?

If, however, you get overwhelmed and need a brief hiatus, I can always foster for you. It won't be easy logistically, but it can be done. Since I'm so allergic to Toos, I can't come there. However, I'm just a few hours away by plane and I'm very, very close to BWI. Where there's a will, there's a way. Heck, I already have a Will

Love,

Nancy aka The Outlaw

Thanks Nancy and Don!
Nah - I couldn't start my day without these two b&g clowns. Today I brought out Elwood and Tinker........ what a nightmare. They are usually delighted to be in living room near me, but today I got brave and said "what the hell" - so took them to the love seat with me, usually the spot for the cockatoos as they love being near me.
Neeedless-to-say Tinker was not in the least bit thrilled and kept chewing at the sheet that I had spread on my lap................ eventually I had to put a pillow between her and I and believe it or not she laughed at me - in MY laugh....... it was oh so comical, yet, scary............... when hubby woke up I had to ask him to please get her.
Oh Nancy - if only you knew what you have done to this household! LMAO

Awe Laurie, you and your 'Toos. I need you to send me some of your Cockatoo Mojo, so that my relationship with Seymour can get better. Shortly after we adopted Seymour, I became the recipient of several serious 'Too bites, so much so that I am now afraid of him. He and I do very well, talking and dancing through the cage bars. We leave the cage door open often and he comes out and plays. Hubby can shower him and cuddles with him in the wee hours of the morning(when no body is looking). My son is also able to play with him to a point. But yesterday....I did a bad thing.....While Seymour was out, hopping around the floor, he came after me with that look.."I'm gonna eat you up" look. Anyway, i tried to just walk off from him, but he kept coming. I ended up running and jumping up on the couch and screaming for someone to save me. Hubby came in and in a stern voice says "Seymour, get back in your cage" The bird immediately obeys. (sigh) I know this is not the way to handle the situation, but Lord, I'm scared of his beak. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Kim:

It was so bad with Lynn Secosan when her grey used to go on the warpath, that she'd actually wear rubber boots. He'd get down from his cage and go after her feet! She'd literally start her morning in rubber boots. Its not about cockatoos, its about free roaming birds.

Kim I can relate to your frustration and I'm still looking for an answer to the reason why this happens to me. I have taken many bites and some really nasty ones that should have been stitched. My E2 will no longer go out of his way to attack me but will bite if I am close enough. This bird will go to anybody but me and hasn't bitten anybody else. I feed him, clean his cage give him his favorite treats and life is good, but let my flesh within striking distance and wham-mo blood. I really think he hates me because he does not like to see me give any attention to the other birds and sometimes will screech if he sees me holding one. But he is here to stay even if he takes a finger off.

I'm sorry, Nancy, but that truly is funny! Knowing how the normal human looks first thing in the morning, to add a pair of rubber boots and one high-steppin' momma is just too much.
