That's exactly what I figured. Classic case. Happens ALL the time.

I never got a copy of it that I remember, I had wondered about the art contest and what happened with it...LOL!!!!
There was so much more I wanted to say on that thread, it just bugs me! I can take criticism and lectures from people, but will never take a lecture from someone who doesn't do as they preach!!!!

I've never gotten a newsletter either. I'm a litte goofy, but I've always felt that one drowning person can't save another drowning person. Somebody's got to know how to swim. A rescue shouldn't need donations. Asking for donations is asking to be rescued. I get offered birds all the time, I don't take them because I can't afford to give them the lives they deserve. If you have a deficit of time, or funds, you have no business having a rescue.

I like that line: Asking for donations is asking to be rescued. I think THAT sums is up perfectly.

I would love to pour my money into a "real" rescue.
Our state bird club called Alaska Bird Club is great about adopting out birds. Sometimes birds are only in foster care for a short time. Most of the time the rescue is able to match up people who can't keep their birds with people on a waiting list wanting to adopt. So they never even have to house the birds. I always keep an eye on their pet finder list and it changes every week with birds coming and going. Only one greenwing has been infoster care for a while now. She plucks severly and is very stressed out so they are being extra careful on finding her a home. I think all rescues should follow the example of the alaska bird club. Sure there are things about the club that I dont' like, but all in all they are a really good organization. Who adopt birds out. There are no "lifers" who stay in foster care for the rest of their lives. They don't believe in that. So I know of one really quality rescue and that is it. Pretty sad state of affairs huh?

Dayna:
They seem to "get it". They should merely be halfway houses. I can't stand the idea of keeping a bunch of birds in cages crammed row on row for indefinite periods. Heck, I can't even stand seeing that scenario in petshops. Even the "good" rescues eventually lose their way. And, that's just another reason I say everyone should save just one bird, make it your pet and know that you did your part.

I know I like to be in a fantasy world where everything will work out. But my thoughts are breeders breed for money, since alot of the birds being bred are endangered or threatened in the wild, we should convince the gov'ts of the world to pay the breeders to not have contact with a majority of their babies to reintroduce them into the wild? Or at least for breeding programs that do. Then the breeders get paid at least something. Guess I am just naieve.
