avator pictures

Does anybody know how I can make my pictures smaller so I can upload them for my profile picture and avator? I use a digital camera (the older style with a floppy disk) and the size of my pics are about 980 KB each. Is there something I need to adjust on my camera before I take a picture, or can I change the size of it after I upload it to my computer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm so jealous of everybody's gorgeous fids in their avators!

You can use programs such as Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Paint, or even some online websites (I don't know them... never remembered them because I never needed to use them).

If you don't have any of those programs, or don't know how to use them, you can get someone else to do it for you.

I use Irfanview 3.95 which I believe you can download for free--or at least I did somehow. That's how I resize my pictures.

depending on the operating systems you're using. For expamle Windows XP if you right click on the picture it will allow you to resize it. that is the easiest and fastest. When you do that it will make a copy of the picture and then you just upload the copy. If you need someone to resize it for you please email it to me at rdmanuel@gmail.com and I can do it for you.

okay, I'm feeling really computer challenged right now...when I right click on the picture, the only option I see that is remotely related to resizing is "edit". when I click edit, it opens up Paint. Monica, where in paint do I go to resize it, or what steps do I need to do?

I don't use Paint as it's not an easy program (for me) to use (the more complicated programs with more tools are much easier for myself)... Here is something that I found in the Help Topics... It might help you!

To change the size of your picture
  1. On the Image menu, click Attributes.
  2. Under Units, click the unit of measurement you want to use for the width and height.
  3. Type the measurements in Width and Height.

Notes

You can also resize your picture by dragging the image resize handles, located at the lower-right corner and along the bottom and right sides of your picture. (You might need to maximize the window to see the square resize handles.)
If your current picture is bigger than the new size, the picture is cut from the right side and bottom to fit within the smaller area. If your current picture is smaller than the new size, the extra area is filled with the selected background color.

Well I finally got it to work. I ended up downloading Irfanview 3.95. Thanks for all the trouble you went to Monica, I just couldn't get it figured out. Paint IS a difficult program to navigate!

Well, I'm glad that you were able to atleast figure it out! Paint can be quite stressing if you can't figure out how to easily resize the photos, or the photos end up being too small and they are on a 'white board' that may not be easy to get rid of. The more complex programs usually tend to be easier as they have more options, and the help topics usually tend to be a lot easier to understand!

That is a lovely photo, however!

I also find Paint a pain in the butt to use. My digital camera is Kodak, the software that comes with it has a "Save for web" option, plus it is very easy to crop a pic.
