How do I order a calendar? I would also like a bit more information on the calendar itself. How many years have you been making them? How are the pictures chosen? That kind of stuff! I am excited to purchase one. (Sorry if this is common knowledge. I am still new to the site.)

Hi Blondie.
The calendar is in its 3rd year of production.
I was sent an email 3 years ago, and submitted a picture for a picture contest. My boy did not make the calendar, but was chosen as the first ever poster parrot FOR the calendar. I was touched beyond words, since I had just lost my beloved boy, and this was a tremendous honor for the both of us.
When the Parrots at Play needed another board member they asked me to jump on board. I agreed. Now I am disqualified to enter but thats only fair.
Each year the calendar gets 5 new judges to choose the winning pictures of parrots that people have submitted. The judges come from around the US and Canada. None of them know eachother, and each member of the board does not know them all either. As a board member I nominate and ask 2 judges. This year I asked a top board certified avian vet, and a bird watcher.
The others do the same.
the top 12 winning photos get the spot!!!
Each year our calendar cover features a Poster Parrot whose job is to educate the public about some aspect of birds.
2004- illness
2005-adoption
2006 lifespans
and I'm not a liberty to announce 2007 yet....but its a good one!!

I activly ask for participation from this site and its great members for thier imput for each calendar. I'm like mother hen, reminding them of deadlines, and photo submissions. You will see this in February when we open the photo contest again Anyone and any birdy is welcome to enter!!!

The calendar was started as a labor of love from one very special parrot person and mom...Donna. Donna can answer any question you might have if you contact her at the site
www.parrots-at-play.org

This is not a money making effort on her part what so ever. This is a money making effort to help all the birds out there that need help, and the santuaries and people that care for them.......

We hope to have it more successful each year. The happier everyone is with the calendar, the more they will tell thier friends, and the more money we can help raise to care for socities throwaways, and thoes who cant help themselves.!!!!

the order info is all on the site also.

I hope this is of some help.

Thank you so much for the information! You gave me excellent information! I just found the website! The poor severe macaw just about broke my heart!!! I am the extremely proud mom of a fabulous 1 year old little lady Severe Macaw named Picasso, a spectacular 1 year old young man Yellow Nape Amazon named Fancy Dancer and a cute little unsexed 1 year old spitfire cockatiel named Ash (won't drown you with the rest of my animal family descriptions and names.) I can't for the life of me understand how or why anyone would do some of the cruel things they do to animals! When I saw that poor severe, I just wanted to bring him home and pour as much love on the poor little guy as he could tolerate! I will be purchasing my copy tomorrow (since it is way past bedtime and I must get up in 5 1/2 hours from now.) I am betting I will be sending in some pics of my family for 2007!! Thanks again for the information!!

I ordered 4, just as a proud Mama should... seeing how Tiki is one of the calander girls! They look absolutely wonderful, and I should be ordering a few more soon.

Not only does it contain a picture of the prettiest scarlet macaw ever (as Tiki would demand at least me to think) the rest of the calander is great, it came out beautiful! And the cause, of course, is well worth it!

Congratulations!! I suppose if any of my babies were in the calendar, my friends would probably try to tape my mouth shut! I am sure they would get very tired of hearing about them! I would love to have a larger macaw (probably a blue and gold) just think I need to enjoy my wonderful animal family as it is right now. I worry I won't be able to give the others as much time as I do now. Maybe next year?? There is also not a whole lot of breeders here so it may be difficult to buy one without having to go to the pet store. Won't buy one from there. Congrats again!
