Chain Pet store visit

Hi everyone,

Just got back from the big chain petstore here in England, called "Pets at Home" to get Humph's Nutriberries and some dowels (still haven't given up on step-up training).

A few thing: ...

First, I do like the place because most of the birds are in an indoor aviary. The budgies are together, the finches and canaries are together, and the tiels are together. In the tiel section were two of the most gorgeous birds - the girl working there told me they are Blue Pennant Rosella Parakeets. I can't find a pic on the web. Has anyone ever seen one? They have many shades of beautiful blue. They're big, like a small Amazon - bigger than Corbett.

Also, there was one in there that looked like it was an Albino tiel. He had the tiel body and wings, was pale, pale yellow (no orange cheeks) with red eyes. He also had no crest! The girl didn't know what he was. What do you think?

They also had a variety of lovebirds, but in cages, not in the aviaries. The lovebirds had no toys, so I immediately talked to the one girl who works there and who I always speak to. She said that they had some toys, but they destroyed them. (!!!) I said that proves they need and enjoy toys. I explained that even though they're small, they are as intelligent as larger parrots, and still need stimulation. She said she would put some toys in. I also wrote to the company regarding the rest of their stores.

Hope everyone's well. We're so hot over here.

Best, Michele and Humphrey

Thanks, Michele.
I can attest that lovebirds need things to destroy and shake and fight with...

The mystery teil might have been a red rump? Or maybe it had just been pecked so that the crest had not grown back yet.

I love that you talked to the lass who worked there about enriching the birds environment - I cant belive how very little (some) people who work in Pet stores are!!!

Pet stores have a lot to answer for, in some instances.. :grr:
