I can't believe my luck!

I went to the Parrot Society meeting last night and it was the best one ever! I was late and missed most of the boring officer reports. Then I bought some raffle tickets at the last minute and won one of the best possible prizes! I get to attend the premiere of "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill" next week AND meet the author of the book, Mark Bittner! I am so excited! I am not sure if I will have time to talk to him, but I will try to get an interview for next month's journal.

The guest speaker was really good and spoke about my dream bird-the Malabar Parrot. I was surprised that they are so small, I expected them to be more IRN sized but they weigh about 98 grams and close to cockatiel size. He said they are very gentle and sweet natured. He keeps his in aviaries, not as pets, but they would make good pets so I am encouraged if I can find the money.

Finally, I bought heaps of stuff at the product table, some nice presents for the lovely people who will be putting up with me for a night or so during my trip, hope everyone likes what I got them!

Mark Bittner is a great man! You should ask him about his new book he's writing, I'm sure you'll find it interesting! I did tell Mark that there were people around the world waiting to see the movie for themselves!

I guess your perception on Malabar parrots was much like the one I had on the Port Lincolns! I thought that they would be more mid-large conure size, but they were more like a small-mid cockatoo size!

Lucky

Being late wasn't a problem last night, you missed the boring stuff, won prizes and learned about one of your fav parrots. Now that was a nice night!!

Oh, hopefully you love the movie.. but bring tissue (I didn't and my sweatshirt was soaked) :)

Sounds like a great night all around ~ congrats!

Kristy,

You mean the movie is as emotional as the book? I swear to God, yesterday as I finished the last few chapters in the lunch room at work, I was sobbing and trying my best to conceal it. I only just started there as a temp last week, I don't want to have to explain to my new workmates why I am crying over birds in a book! I sure got attached to them though!

LOL only because I could see myself doing the same thing!! Then you got the red eyes going on....not good.

Monica....very funny indeed. Seeing the birds in the movie makes you become one of the "flock" it seems.

Reading the book and watching the movie is SO very different, it's somewhat like a totally different story line, and it's great as well! I think Mark has decided that he is rather a well book writer, so it would be interesting to know how many books he'll write altogether!
