Need some good luck wishes.....

Had a proven adult female albino cockatiel escape about 4 hrs.ago (DARN). I hadn't seen her again until just a few minutes ago flying high above the backyard so thankfully she is still in the area getting her bearings.

About an hour ago I heard quite a commotion out back and ran out to see why the birds were all making a fuss. To my sadness I saw a neighborhood cat, that I too feed, standing behind a bush with a dove dangling from it's mouth, obviously beyond help. Sad :( . I hate cats on one hand yet I feed/pet them with the other hand and the one that had the dove in it's mouth was the one I PAID the neighbor to have fixed.......So, bad day today for me.......Say a prayer if ya believe it helps and throw some good luck wishes my bird's way. Ya'll can do it quietly if ya like, I'm not one who needs tons of sympathy messages but IF it makes YOU feel better, then post them of course. (Hope that statement is taken in the right way , just trying to save ya the trouble etc.... :) )...........Sure is wonderful though to see her flying majestically, in full unlimited flight above. Just hope she keeps an eye open for predators and can find food. I'll let ya'll know what happens.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. This is the 3rd escaped cockatiel I have heard about this week. I got a note in my letterbox from someone missing a pearl tiel named Chloe, a member of our bird club's son accidentally let a pet cockatiel out and now yours. I hope you get her back soon. I always worry about cockatiels out in the big bad world, they are so small and helpless.

I know that feeling-helplessly watching two of my cockatiels fly away. They had been in a boarding facility when they escaped-not my house which is very secure. They spent the night nearby and we went over really early in the morning and heard them chirping. I called to them but they were pretty high up and I couldn't get them. Taina was the third bird I had at that time, she stayed behind-good girl! I brought her back in a cage hoping her chirping would bring them down but it didn't work. They finally flew off into the distance and I couldn't follow them anymore. Suburban Brisbane is NOT their natural habitat and it is very dangerous for them with all the cats and predator birds around.

I advertised for weeks, put up notices, did a letterbox drop and notified the RSPCA and all the vets-no luck. A few weeks later, someone found a cockatiel and rang me. It wasn't one of mine but the finder didn't want to deal with him so I took him in and placed a "found" ad in the paper just to be sure. No one claimed him-that is how we got our beloved Tiki bird! I still wonder about those two runaway tiels and hope someone took them in, even if they didn't want to give them back at least I hope they are OK.

Do your birds have leg rings? Then you can identify her if someone finds her and turns her in-don't give up yet! Try ringing the local vets and any animal shelters. She will have to go to a home eventually, pet cockatiels don't know how to find food, they are used to humans bringing them food.

Tiki is probably between 6-10 years old, the father of 6 babies, but I still call him MY baby! I'm going to go hug my tiels again!

Awwwwwww come on BUDDY!!!

Joel...don't you dare give up so easily....one very GOOD thought is that when these Tiels spread their wings....most the time they stay up high...like in the trees.....so simply put outside a cage up on SOMETHING not near the ground....and place the food & water...& maybe if she liked a toy or two.....Leave that door OPEN....she may indeed come back...ALLOW the male to CALL for her....she may come!! And YES...you indeed SHOULD put out some word that your cockatiel is swarming free....cause many times they end up simply down the street!! So don't you give up so easily buddy>>>START SPREADING the WORD...somebody is probably going to see that lil gal.....so hang in there bud!!!

Joel:

What's the weather like where you are? You know that winds can really transport these little guys. We found a Maryland amazon in NJ after a bunch of storms and high winds. I would also agree that placing an empty cage outside with food may indeed lure her if she's still around. You have probably already thought of that, but still, its worth mentioning. I sure hope you find her. There are so many tiels lost every summer. Good luck.
