I love men's names for parrots. Corbett sort of named himself. He yells "Shut up" and either Corby or Corbett - we can't really tell. . We all just thought Corbett was such a great name. My mom's husband's son wanted to name him "Speckles" because he's a Spectacled Amazon. I argued against it, and got Corbett.

I wanted a man's name for Humphrey and was thinking about Winston, but wasn't sure. My husband asked his friends at the pub. He told them the bird was Australian, so one friend suggested Humphrey after some Australian celebrity named Barry Humphries. I had no idea who this Barry Humphries was, but I do now - a comedian. I immediately loved the name Humphrey though - for it's silly seriousness.

My brother just got a baby CAG and named him Franklin! I LOVE that name. So now the parrots in my family are Corbett, Humphrey and Franklin. Sounds like a law firm.

OK, lets start with the oldest and move to the youngest/newest...

male, husband and father type human; "Jerry"
AKA; Sweetums, Daddoo (kids' name for him),
Crusty ol' Bastid (my pet name for him)

female Cat; "Miss Luna"
AKA; LunaBalloona, LunaBird (no clue where that came from)

male Cat; "Thumbkin Munchkin"
AKA; Thumbkin, Thumbkers (He has 6 toes & big thumbs
on his front paws)

female Dog, (Beagle/doxie mix) "Miss Weasel"
AKA; Weezy, Weezers, (When we first got her she was
a puppy, small and looking like a black weasel
when she would burrow herself under the bed covers)

female Dog, (10 lb rat terrier) "Mugsy Soprano"
Really my eldest daughter's dog- she's tough and she's
obnoxious, so the name fits.
AKA; Mugs, MooMoo, Thug-dog, Little Rat Bastid (my name for her)

male Eclectus; "Mr Pippin"
AKA; Pip, Pimpster or Mr Pimpin' (kids think that's just hilarious)
I named him Pippin because I was/am a Lord of the Rings *freak*,
also because green apples are sometimes called "pippins"

male :?: Meyers parrot, "Oscar"
AKA; Oskie, Pidge-Pidge (another kids' choice)

Bullet, so named because when he was a puppy he had a white dot on his forhead, though he came with the name... A mutt of a critture, acts more like his mother than what his father might be...

Squirt, he's a pain in the rear end, so the name stuck as he's a "little squirt". Large kitty

Sprite, so named because squirt is also the name of a type of soda, and well, she is kinda like a little sprite.... always into EVERYTHING and always on the go! Little sister, no clue whos older

Noel, so named because of her x-mas colors, and well, she is referred to as one of the X-mas conures (also is finch's, mitred, white-eyed, etc)... She came with her name though, so it stuck!

Casey, hmmm..... The breeders named her, no clue why, but nothing else fit her just right!

Cosmo.. Forgot why he was named, think it was having to do with the stars, though very unsure...

Smurf.... well, thats kinda obvious, and easy to tell as he's BLUE!!!! Need I say more?!

And the falcons... errr, bourkes! Well, they never came with any names (from my knowledge), and since the parents didn't have any names, nor did the chicks as I could never find anything to 'fit'. I couldn't manage to find any names that flowed together and that fit the birds at the same time...

Birds naming other birds, and picking their own? This stuff blows my mind!

Pogo (male pacific parrotlet), I was planning on "Gherkin", but my wife and kid didn't like it, and he is not all green like a female. So I suggested Pogo after the small but wise Walt Kelly creation.

Nilly- She was white..."Vanilla" was too bland and too long...so I somehow got "Nilly" out of it

Cayo- He reminded me of a little Florida key-lime...Cayo was the original Spanish word for a Florida Key Island, so I named him Cayo

Dewey- He had already been named by his breeder. I'm wasn't really fond of it at first, but it's growing on me.

Bebee- We couldn't decide on a name, so for the first few days we called him Blue Bird. I wanted to name him "Sachimo" after Louis Armstrong, but no one else liked it...So we came up with Bebee (B.B.- BB King or Blue Bird)

Okay, here's mine (all names are of Polynesian origin):

Tiki-it's a statue of a Polynesian god and my Tiki Bird thinks he's like a god for the rest of my birds-or at least God's gift to hens!

Taina-means "gardenia flower"-she is just so sweet and gentle like a flower

Manu-means "bird" but also a common name for humans in the islands

Koro-he was adopted by us after a girl went off to uni and didn't want him-his orginal name was Goldie and Koro means gold.

Maui-not just a Hawaiian island but a Polynesian god. He takes after his father, Tiki in thinking he is some kind of bird god!

Manea-means "Pretty" and she definitely is!

Rangi-means "Sky or heaven", he is a gentle bird too and takes after Taina, his mother.

Shaka-cheeky little guy-he's the one in my avatar-Shaka is that hand hsaking thing they do in Hawaii and all the other islands have adopted it-he also looks like a little Zulu.

Tattoo-he has kind of a heart shaped "Tattoo" on his back-really cute!

Rima- means #5, also means hands/arms -she was our 5th baby and I liked the way the name sounds

Oh Dear...

If I were to give you ALL the reasons for the reasons for ALL my birds having their names, I'd be here all night, but couldn't let the opportunity fly by to share their names with you all.... hey, if you want to know what colours they are (their mutations...) they are on my site!

http://www.geocities.com/three_feath...ies.index/html (gosh, I think thats right... check profile...)

But here are their names (and some of the reasons!):

Rocky (brought him in Rockhampton)
Henny - Penny (big like a chicken)
Jasper
Bonnie
Clyde (but do you think that they'll pair up? NO WAY!! Darn!!)
Texas
Indiana (aka Indie) (not sure why the US inspired names...!!)
Lucy Lu
Tiffa (off FFVII!!)
Drucilla (aka Dru)
Madonna (aka Maddy) (I didnt realise until afterwards that this is actually the name of the wife of the breeder we got her off!! !!)
Thomas
Dominque
Jay-Jay
Neo
Hugo (cos he's HUGE-O...)
Boof (very long crest (boof head...)
Zorro (cos I love that movie, we used to have a Maverick for the same reason)
Adonnis (god of love)
Apollo
Heidi
Princess (came with name)
Poppy (long story about that one, remind me you tell ya'll sometime!!)
Deliah (why, why WHY!! hehehe!!)

*Quick Count* Yep, that's all of em!!

We also have two red rump parrots, Reilly and Magic, and two pet teils, Jake and Sunny.

My dog's name is Delta (call signal D = Delta, another one of my dogs was called Deefa (D for Dog...) but it suits her!!

Two cats, Sasha and Shiva, one remaining guinea pig, Winston James Lancelot (I had over 10 guineas and they all had 3 names each!!!) A lizard named gizzard (rescued because all her 'gizzards' were hanging out) and, the most recent member to the family is a 15 hh 10 yr red roan Quarb geldling named Wrangler!! Whew... and I wonder why I am poor!!!
