i like the no age limit idea! then if someone doesn't feel comfortable going in then they dont have to worry at all....the reason i dont like the age limit idea is cause ppl r always telling me that "when u get older" "when ur older i'll tell u" and it getsss really annoying! and i dont like ppl babying me at all...my sisters do that all the time then i end up yelling at them then they tell my dad and i get grounded...so yeah

I like Kevin's idea of moving "racey" threads to that sepperate area...that's an AWESOME idea....That way AT LEAST AT FACE VALUE we look like good little bird mommies and daddies...not like bickering, oppinionated, sarcastic soap-box standers....little would those visitors know what happens behind the scenes!

OK, so everyone has very valid points on the issue. This is the exact reason it's never been done before. There are simply too many opinions, and I don't know what to do. Maybe the 18 yrs old age limit is a nono, and you just have to request to be a member. I don't know.

I love the idea of just being able to state what you want without anyone censoring you. Believe me, I'm all for it. (I'm a teenager, what do ya expect) But like has been stated, I don't want some newcomer to see one of our petty arguments, and think that we're a bunch of a-holes. I think that maybe a possibility is:: And listen:::

Make the "special" forum. You gotta ask to be a part of it. No age limit required. in special forum, you can post whatever you want. Threads like the religion thread will be moved there once they get out of hand...and they did :-)

I don't know. It could be that this is just a bad idea all around. Everybody's got their own opinions on the subject, and they're all right.

Keep discussing
Kevin
Kevin~ First of all I DO apologize for "lighting the fire" Seems for some reason whenever I really 'speak out' it turns into a huge fiasco!! Geesh, that definitely is NOT my intention at all! My ONLY reason for 'suggesting' a Parrent room(or whatever ya wanna call it~ its a room for birdlovers at ANY AGE!) was for ALL of us who are beginning to get comfortable with teasing,nudging,harrassing(nicely..) & plain ol having a good time YAKKING !!!!!!!>>>WITHOUT causing ANY interruption within ANY thread! Something like ~ you already KNOW where to post a cute remark AND you KNOW where to READ any remarks!!! As far as REAL interaction with whatever mood or verbal usage, we ALREADY HAVE the "PM" option!! I simply BELIEVE that this Razzzzzzy Playground would be just that ....FUN & SARCASM amongst those who wish to partake!! I REALLY don't see ANYONE of us needing to misbehave or use unacceptable wording or behaviours beyond what already has been going on...I JUST thought we could at least LIMIT ALL the fun back_N_forthing to ONE area & ONE area ONLY!! Simply to AVOID postings where they may NOT belong or unlimited topics of interacting snide remarks where it WILL be understood, by ANYONE who chooses to follow such sarcastic threads be it jokes or kidding around with a closer friend, then others are with that particular person! I think this would CLEAN up the initial birdboard a bit, YET we can STILL interact in a designated space 'maturely' whatever age, but 'respectively for ALL ages! I really don't think hiding a forum is a good idea at all...you already HAVE "PM"....designating by age I don't think is necessary at all...remember those that have been reading out here have been of ALL ages! I simply wanted to SUGGEST a room to be less then serious in yet have the FUN!!! Including ANYONE! Maybe I haven't made myself very clear??? But I certainly don't want to cause any problems out here...cause I LOVE this board ...filled abundantly with terrific people!!!

THE LOUNGE - Kick Back, Relax, And Chat With Other members

Why not just amend the above description to read something like:

THE LOUNGE - Where bird lovers let it all hang out. Some posts may include PG-13 material.

I don't think a bird forum where some yahoo (not to mention any names) is talking pajama fabric, cup size, etc. in the "Lounge Area" is likely to get our mods in hot water. There have been thousands of posts, and I'm guessing not one irate parent so far, neh? Think about it, compared to most of what passes for web content these days, the raciest thread here looks like Mother Goose material.

IMO, The Lounge works fine as is, so I say "if it aint broke..."

Too funny; tried that shoe on didn't ya Joel, and guess what - it fit! YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree - if the subject matter in a post changes because we have some on this board who can't be serious for more than one post (no names) then the mods could move the part of the post that has become "contaminated" and leave the original question and answer!
Sounds like a great solution; either that or teach some of these people to behave themselves; highly unlikely!

What fun is it if we don't morph the conversation a little when it starts to slow?
We're usually pretty good about giving a VERY sufficient answer or having a constructive convo on the topic FOR A WHILE...but then, ya know, some of them just need a little...um...seasoning....
But it'd be cool to have a place to move the convo to when it get so far off subject we can't remember what the original post was....
Okay...just rambling now....
I'll agree with anything Kevin decides to do :D

Good for YOU!

I agree too...of course it will HELP keep the original threads clear of us goofing off....AND at the same time...the GOOFING OFF can STILL exist in its own lil board..... I like the idea of "NOT worrying about OFFENDING somone at sometime & NOT even realizing it..." if ya know what I mean!? Heck LOOK at all the times everyone has to EXPLAIN MR Crebain's sarcasm....we shouldn't have to do that...WE SHOULD SIMPLY have a place to comfortably release stuff like that without any worry of offending someone.....BUT indeed what ever Kevin comes up with...we WILL go along with....He isn't ANY dummy by far"!!!! Bright individual like him will surely find 'resolution' to please all....you watch & wait & see...give the guy a chance!!!

hmm

Hmmm, I think Smurfy's idea is a very good one as us BirdBoarders know what topics can turn in to. But, my mind changed when Phil suggested adding to the bottom of the BirdBoard lounge "Pg-13 matter, humour shared may not be the same humour as yourself, or whatever". This way lurkers won't have to take a second look at the material(Great idea Phil).

Also, when registering to BirdBoard children under the age of 13 have to have a parent give permission to join anyways. The childrens parents will most likely look over BirdBoard and with reading the lounge message they may feel comfortable giving permission to their child, or they may tell their child just not to visit the lounge. And if their not comfortable with their child being on BirdBoard they just won't give permission for them to register on BirdBoard!

Ok, what I wrote doesn't even make sense or have to do with what we're talking about lol, and it took me awhile to write it  . Maybe you'll get the jist of what I was trying to say.

Have a good night everyone,
Steven

Personally I think most parents don't have a clue as to what their kids get upto on the internet-and when they register for such sites they probably lie about their age. For the record, I don't use bad language gratuitously (except while driving ), what I meant was not having to tone ourselves down because we might offend someone in normal conversation. I currently work for a stevedoring company. They way I joke around with them is not the same way I would converse with the CEO if he came to visit, but the stevedores are much more fun to hang around with! SOme people are just a bit hoity toity if you know what I mean! It took me AGES to convince the stevedores (we call them wharfies over here) that I wasn't made of glass and wouldn't turn 10 shades of red if I heard an off-colour joke! The only other woman here is the secretary and she is a bit more, well is delicate the word? I've was in show-biz for 15 years and traveled all over the world as a backpacker, I miss those outrageous no-holds-barred convos we used to have-all the joking and teasing around. I can't do that at work so much because my office is upstairs just next door to the GM and I don't get to hang around with wharfies often--but I do appreciate a good joke!

Nobody should ever feel obligated to disclaim my comments. If my style of posting is seen as a burden on the majority, just say so, and I will bow out gracefully. :?:
