Question Why do we name our bird what we name them ?

I was just wondering what you have named your birds and if there is a reason why they have the names that you have given them. For example most of our birds have been named for one reason or another. But then there are some that we got that had names and we didn't bother nor did we want to mix them up by calling them a new name when we knew what their name was. The others we named for one reason or another and these are the reasons. These are a few of the names of the lovebirds and the reasons for naming them the way that we did.

Bird #1, George was named because he is so cute. I just wanted to hung him and squeeze him and name him George.
Bird #2 Weesie was named because it is the mate for George and the first thing that came to my wifes mind was this name from the Jefferson's TV show in the 70's (yes I'm aging us)
Bird #3, Punkin is a orange faced hence the name punkin.
Bird #4, Lemon Head is a heavy pied dutch blue with a bright yellow head. This is why we named him Lemon Head.
Bird #5, Flip would do flips in the corner of the cage. It was so cute that we had to name him flip.
Bird #6, FNB is one mean little lovebird when she is on eggs or around her nest. She got the name because she's a Fu***ng B**ch
Bird #7 V this is the mate for FNB, He has a violet tail. Violet was not masculinit (sp) so we just cut it short to V.
Bird #8 R2D2 was named this because of the noise she makes when chattering. She sounds like R2D2 from Star Wars.
Bird #9&10 Pete and Repete. These two are brothers from the same clutch. Well the first clutch that we raised. There was no way that we were going to sell them. Because they looked so much alike we could not tell them apart. I named them Pete and Repete was just one that fit perfect. He's a repeat of his brother.
Bird #11, Louie is a masked lovebird that we figure is male. We bought him to partner with Lalia who were were told was female. Lalia and Louie just sounded good. Come to find out in the past two years there have never been any eggs laid and Lalia just acts like a male.
Bird #12, Cinnamon is an American Cinnamon LB and the name just fit him.
Bird #13&14, Tatter and Tot is a White Faced Violet Lovebird that loves to watch TV. He'll sit there and not move as long as the TV is in eye site. So he loves being a couch potato. With the two of them being in the same cage the name for Tot fit. So it's Tatter and Tot.
Bird #15, Camo now this is weird. He is a Heavy pied Dutch Blue Standard Green with a double dark factor. Looking at his back he looks camouflage with yellow, green, grey and red. Hence the name Camo
Bird #16&17, Lucky and Lucky's Friend. Lucky is name this because when I had gone in for the evening changing of water and seed I found him in the bottom of the cage almost dead from being cold. He was not even two weeks old. Well for almost a week until we could get a brooder I would get up every hour and half so that I could put hot water into a plastic bag that we had under some towels to keep him warm and I would also hand feed him. A day or two later Lucky's friend was found out of the nest too. About that time we got the brooder and put those two together. So instead of getting up every hour and a half I was able to get two hours sleep in between feedings.
Bird #18&19, They are Jack and Diane. Jack is a splayed legged Silver The name of Jack Sprague came to mind so it's not Jack Splayed. Diann got her name from the song Jack and Diane from John Mellencamp (there I go aging myself again)

This is the short list. There are another 9 birds that we have that came with names.

#1 Noel - came with name though Noel is a Christmas name, and she is a "Christmas" bird (in more than one way!)... heres how. She is a cherry head conure, which results in red and green coloring, Christmas colors. Although she came with her name, I also received Noel 3 days before Christmas!

#2: Smurf - Came with name, though he is a blue budgie, Smurf's are blue, most likely named by a child...

#3: Georgia and Sophia - bought them from a breeder from Las Vegas, violet factored skyblue and a violet factored light green (appear olive and cobalt), names just sound like flashy show names and it fits them

#4: Cosmo - came with name, not sure why

#5: Casey - came with name, not sure why

#6: Two bourkes - older one didn't come with name, so therefore didn't name younger one, couldn't think of names to give them...

Hi Mr. Five,

I love the reason you used the name George.

I have one bird and it's name is Pumpkin because I love everything pumpkin (pie, soup, dip, muffins, ice cream....everything!!)

Scarlett came to me with her name--but she is a gorgeous red so I guess it's obvious why they called her that.

I love hearing about birds named Mango. I think that is such a cute name. If I get another bird, it will be a re-home who will already have a name--but it would rock my world if he/she was named Mango.

We named all our birds. Lets see

1. Pair of Lovebirds named Search and Destroy. Basically that's what they do one goes around the room looking around and the other follows and destroys what she finds.

2. Prozac and Zoloft are our 2 tiels they got the name due to their behavior and the fact we aren't sure if they are boys or girls so we wanted a name that was neutral and that just seem to be funny and fit.

3. Our finches were named by my 2 oldest girls one is 10 and the other is 7. They named the pairs as follows. Nacho & cheese, Zig & Zag and Falcon and Snowy.

And that's how they got their names.

If the tiels are over 6 months old, I'd say they are females!

I named all of my fids, Mollie, Dakota, and Ollie. There is no rhyme or reason to the names they have. Ollie is short for Oliver, but she was DNA sexed female, and Ollie sounds a little less masculine.

I, too, love why you picked George. That's my favorite name too, but we have girls.

Zen is Zen because her cage took over the corner where the Zen rock garden was. It doesn't fit except that I could watch her for hours and bliss out.

Cory is Cory because it is gender neutral. I wanted to name her Princess Tiger Lily, but I couldn't wait a month until we got the DNA back. I was watching the Cubs game and Corey Patterson was up and I went to Scott and said, "What about Cory?" and he agreed. We now call her C.C. most of the time.

Cami: She is yellow, and that made me think of Camille for some reason. Camille is her full name, but we've always just called her Cami.

Beeper: Came with his name. Oh, and how I hated it at first! But we couldn't change it. He knew his name well enough to speak it. I love it now, though. He was named that by his breeder because he's been making beeping noises every since he was a baby... and he still does.

Sam: Came with her name, too. I don't care for it, but, again, she knows her own name, so...

well, we got Sylvester first. we decided to name him what we did because we figured we were backwards and had a cat named Tweety, may as well call him Sylvester.

Snak was named his name because of the cat, I kid you not! the cat kept looking at him and licking her chops, like she thought he would make a good snack. Tweety soon learned the error of her ways. Snakky taught Tweety to respect birds, especially little ones :CHOMP!

Jasper and Peaches came to us as rehomes and already knew their names, so we didn't change them. why confuse the birds more than they already were, being in new homes was enough of a change.
