I really don't like rats at all and don't want them near my birds either. I just prefer to catch and release rather than kill or mame them. Just not me, sorry......I had one of the worst rat problems that anyone could have I think at one time. There were so many that when ya walked outside there would be 8-10 big ones in a cirlce (like a wagon train) each standing there munching on dropped bird food. They were holding it in their front paws, kinda cute in their own way. Anyway I bought about 8 of those rat traps to catch them alive, baited the traps and caught a lot of them over time and released way out where I felt they would not bother anyone.

Also, what helped even more probably was that a couple of cats took up residence under my shed and had babies and other cats started coming around due to the rats & me feeding the cats. Well, now I have no rats but too many ctas which are a pain in the butt in their own way but so far, I'd rather have the cats than the rats.

So ya might try those traps if ya can find them and release in the CBD. :)

All this talk of rats and cats reminds me of an old Irish song my grandpa used to sing to me when I was REALLY little...dunno if anyone else would know it:
"There were green aligators, and long kneck geese. Humpty back cammels and some chimpanzies. RATS and CATS and elephants......(dunno this middle part)....but the lovliest of all was the unicorn".....Now I'm gonna have that song stuck in my head all day....Thanks Joel!

When is it safe to let my birds go back into their room? There has been no activity for the past 3 nights. No stolen or disturbed baits, no captures. I am hoping either the neighbor's cat or the poison got them (preferably not in my roof cavity). So how long should I wait to be sure they are completely gone? My birds are desperate to go back in their aviary.
