Which should I get?
Ok, Anyone who has been reading my post knows that I am starting my own aviary (not breeding anymore just giving a good home to those in need) so here is another post for everyone to get board with reading...lol I came across two different birds that I want both but can only have one at this point in time (will add to my home in the furture)... so I want to know what everyone's opinion is..(I CAN"T MAKE UP MY MIND, I LOVE BOTH LOL)
A. Hahns macaw. ...A woman has two of them that she needs to rehome (both are males suppost to be sex) that she wants to go together. suppost to be around 8-10 years old. They have always shared one cage or B. Blue and Gold macaw... a 10 month old I did the research on both. They are both equally far away so I would have to make a road trip. they are both around the same price, only 100 difference in adoption fees. (the bothers must go together). So what does everyone think. |

Which one(s) needs a better home (compared to current owner or potential second owner)?

Both pretty much say the same story,,,,no longer able to take care of them, need to find a home ASAP. Now you see my problem. If one was in a worser situation then the other then I would have no problem choosing, but since they are both in pretty much the same thing I can't make up my mind. Now if my extra bird room was finished being built I would get all three of them,

Well, I'm very prejudiced here (LOL) and no fan of Hahns macaws. I see them rehomed all too often. The Hahns will likely need a home more over the long haul, however there will be fewer homes capable of properly caring for the BG. Meet the bird and let them decide whether or not YOU are THEIR cup of tea.

I agree with Outlaw. I much prefer a B&G over a Hahns. Maybe you can adopt one and make arrangements to adopt the others in a timely manner.Just a thought!

Well I contacted both owners last night and come to the conclusion that I am getting the Hahn's bothers. the B&G owner said that they wanted more money then what was orginally agreed upon. Of course I told him that he had contacted me about needing to find a home for the bird because he was not able to take care of him and it was not about the money. I am not upset. That just means that there is another B&G out there for me

Steph,
Congratulations on your choice..! I am Mom to both a Hahns macaw AND a large macaw.. It would be a difficult choice to make, especially if you have the room for either... Kasey is 100 times more comical than Koko, my Harlequin. Much more animated, tho he is also a bit more skittish. He's never bitten me or my hubby, but most definately is not a socialite..he likes his family and thats it. My guess is that there is in fact, a large macaw in your future.. I can just feel it. |
