Charley is now a category four. If it stays on path Fort Myers/port Charlotte will face a catastrophic hurricane.
If it stays on track we will face tornados and tropical storm maybe hurricane force winds. If it jogs north just a bit we are in very very big trouble. Please say a prayer to all who have to face this storm. Also I hope those of you in Florida might be willing to help foster and care for all the birds who will need help. With a category four we will have a lot of homeless birds this weekend. Lynda |

Joel, what happened to you in Hurricane Andrew? I know the term "Ground Zero" in relation to 911 but not to a hurricane. :? Was it a long time ago-you said you had no birds back then? Whatever it was I am glad you survived it! :D
Hang in there Ellie Mae-if it hasn't already been and gone by the time you read this. Only thing I can suggest is if you expect power to go out, unplug sensitive electronic things like PC's, laptops, DVD burners as power surges can ruin them when it comes back on. And offer !

I am in Sarasota. I am opening up my air conditioned garage to anybody who lives south of Sarasota and needs to foster their birds until they can cleanup and rebuild. Please pass on my email addy
Lynjupiter@comcast.net We did fine with no property damage at all. We got very very lucky since for a while it looked like downtown Sarasota was where Charley was going to make landfall. My mother in Arcadia in Desoto county did not fair so well. The shelter roof ripped off exposing the evacuees to the elements and she was slightly injured. She has yet to find out the condition of her home and her birds. They did not expect to get hit and she had to run out of her building as the storm started. I called her minutes before the storm got to them yelling at her to get out! It was to late for her birds and I pray they are all right. Lynda |

How is everybody on here who had to deal with Charley doing? Check in, will ya............ Lynda, Ellie Mae, Miabella, Joanie maybe, anyone else I may be momentarily forgetting? I'm watching the news now and things are pretty bad in places, mostly mobile homes from what I can see on T.V. so far but I'm sure there is plenty of other damage too. I heard it went ashore again somewhere in S.C............
Hey Cliff, we got another T.S. brewing, on the way in this direction for NEXT weekend maybe. Start packing :) , I'll take ya up on your offer if needed later on . By the way, I do pay well as most people do with the Hurricane $$$$ they receive from their insurance companies. That is very sweet and wonderful what Lynda has offered to help out victims. You are super Lynda........... Some day soon I too hope to offer the same thing to our board members on here, if ever needed, however for the immediate future (year or two approx.) that would be impossible as I just have too many birds of my own (hundreds) to take care of & too many other human family responsibilities, at this time, to assist physically. :( ......... Just saw your last post Lynda, I hope your Mom & her birds will come out of it ok. Let us know how she & those birds are when ya find out, I know ya will. |

Thanks Joel,
I am lucky to have a quaratine space separate from my own flock that I can take rescues into. If I did not have that separate space with it's own AC I might be thinking twice. I am in touch with Parrots adoption and rescue resource of the south in Fort Myers. They will more than likely need donations of cages, food and money to help care for birds displaced by the storm. I will let everyone know what the animal shelters and bird rescues need if anyone is interested in helping. My number is out and I am preparing to foster birds and transport any animals displaced to counties that have supplies to care for the rescues. Please keep the surviors in your prayers. There but for the grace of God goes I. We were missed by fifty miles. Lynda |

Just to let you know Joel, My mom and her birds are OK. I went and got her in Arcadia and took her to my sister's. My Mom's house had a leaking roof, missing shingles and no water or power. Looks like there won't be water or power fo a week or even more. I don't know how people can live like that.
Be on the watch. We have another storm Earl coming right in Charley's path. As soon as Home depot has some I am getting plywood for my windows. This has put the fear of God in me about hurricanes Lynda |

Joel, I'd love to go and visit you for 2 weeks, and help ya out over there! I seriously need a break from the people here, though...
Anyway, with Earl, I hope that 'he' doesn't do too much destruction, and things do well! Good luck!
