Hey all,
Just checking in after Charley made his way through. From all the posts above it sounds like all our folks are doing well. Since I live a block and a half from the beach and my house is mostly very old windows, I decided to take a friend up on her offer to stay at her place on the mainland. I packed up the fids and a friend visiting while on vacation from Viet Nam and headed out. We hooked up with my friend and her dog and went to visit another friend of ours and ended up sitting the storm out there.
Initially I planned on putting Kiwi and Elisa in the same travel cage, because everyone (two people and five fids) had to fit in the cab of a standard pick-up. Kiwi was so nasty :x that I ended up putting Elisa in a little yellow plastic picnic basket and perching it on my friend's lap for the drive. Then the cockatiels went into my lovebird's cage (He wasn't thrilled, but behaved pretty well.) and away we went. As soon as we got where we were going Elisa came out and became the life of the party -- especially when she realized there were Wheat Thins in the house!
There's nowhere near as much damage here as in the Punta Gorda/Fort Myers area, but we have loads of down trees, power lines, etc. When I got back to my house Saturday morning I found a big oak branch down in my back yard, along with lots of other yard debris, a strip of cypress siding off the back of my house and lots of wooden fencing down. It was rotten and needed replacing anyway. Other than that and some minor leaks in the house, everything is snug. We're back home now, but as of this morning there wasn't power at the house. Fortunately, my office still has power and AIR CONDITIONING.
Lots of good friends and good neighbors are pulling together. Joel, thanks for asking about us. I'm glad you dodged this particular bullet. It's a lot easier for me to become mobile quickly than for you with all your feathered ones.
Anyway, thank God everyone is safe.
:D
