My Rescue

Afternoon All.
Well, I went yesterday and got the MRH. Such a beauty!
When I started the paperwork on adopting, I was told that it was a female. Then I get there to get 'her' I come to find out that when it was taken in the lady writes up a card on each bird. She had 'male-?" on it. So I went online and checked out sites on MRH's come to find that all of them say that a male has more red on its head. This is what 'he'(will us this)looks like. I know the only real way to tell is by a test. Which I plan on doing.
When I got there the room he was in a room with no natural daylight. This reall p***ed me off. The just know that he was in this room!!! UGH!!!
Well, I drive the 5 long long hours to get home. I cleaned his cage and put in 4 different size and kinds of perches, put in the 2 small toys that were his along with 2 larger toys, along with food and water for him.
I had to get him out of the carrier with a towel. He didn't lunge to bite, all he did was growl and move away from my hand. The lady told me he was hand tame, But hasn't been handled for a while. It seems to me that he would lunge and try to bite if he didn't at least know what a hand was????
Well, got him out and set him upon his one perch. He sat and looked around the cage, the next thing I knew, he was all over it investigating it!!!
I know this is long but I am so excited!!!
Any comments would be greatly appriecated....

Congratulations on your new friend. I also understand that the male MRHs have more red on their heads than the females. I have a female and one believed to be a male and they're both just wonderful. The female is a real cuddle bug and the male is also when he's away from his cage. There's just nothing else quite as wonderful as a 'zon (IMO). Enjoy every minute with this little guy.

Congratulations on your new bird. I love zons, too. They are honest and loyal. What more could you possibly want?

Congrats on your new addition, speaking from experience with my mexican red head (who is a male) the males are brighter and with more color then the females. My MRH is an ADD baby lol. He needs attention all of the time if he knows that you are home. When I am away he is ok, but when I walk through the door you hear his lovely screach and him saying "mom, come here" There is nothing in the world that says I love you more then your MRH cueing on your shoulder out of love.
