...and one final (?) post from me before you continue teasing the trapper...regarding the transmission of rabies from game:

"What precautions should I take while field dressing an animal?
It is advisable to wear rubber or plastic gloves when field
dressing wild animals.Carefully wash up to remove any
blood or tissue afterward.Hunters should wash hands with
soap, and disinfect knives and other equipment with a fresh
solution of household bleach in water (1 pint bleach in 1 gal-
lon of water). "

...freezing does NOT kill the rabies virus...but cooking (heat) and bleach do...raccoons with canine distemper may also exhibit rabies-like symptons, but this disease is not transmittable to humans...

...and for the record, should anyone be wondering...I'm actually anti-hunting, esp. for sport...

Well I figured if he is using a cage and catching them alive he would have to kill them I figured he may get bit in the process.

This is a very contraversial issue. Give a man a fish, he eats for a day (the soup kitchen), teach a man to fish and he eats for life (trapping raccoon). Because it's not appetizing to you doesn't mean it's not delicious for him. I have a doctor at work from the Phillipines who calls me "cow eater" (he doesn't eat beef) I call him "dog eater" (I don't eat dog) and we both laugh. Many people eat roaches and rats that are not farm raised. It's all perspective.

Kathleen, I do agree with you. I did not mean to start anything controversial by all means. I thought it was rather funny. We are going to tell him to take his trap elsewhere. Away from our property. We put fruit and things out for them so they are almost like pets to us. The funny thing is he uses rasberries. Not sure about other peoples areas but here they cost as much as a whole chicken ! I think he just likes racoon, and sells them for a few bucks. Come to find out he also has a job. We even considered putting a gift certificate in there along with a note to take his trap somewhere else. All I know is I switched to organic meats a couple months ago and have lost 7 lbs. Works for me ! Anyone can eat whatever they like, just stay away from my furry friends.

I never meant for this to turn into a controversial issue either.
Kiwi I thought you putting hair on the traps was too funny
My main concern here is for the animals that are being trapped and that it is being done legally. My other concern is for peoples pets that may wonder into this trap, hence making sure that the traps are checked daily.
Living in the south I have heard of people eating all types of critters but I would have to say yuck to the raccoon LOL
Rue, I know how rabies is spread but not every one here may have known those interesting facts, thanks for that most useful information.

..keep in mind the bible was written 2000+ years ago...they didn't have all the information we have now...the main reason pork wasn't eaten was because of parasite transfer
Where ever did you get such an amazingly *WRONG* idea ? Kashrut (kosher dietary) laws were given to Moshe (Moses) Rabbeinu (Our Teacher) at Har Sinai 3,318 years ago (1312 BCE). Kashrut law has nothing to do with health, or preventing Trichinosis, caused by the presence of Trichinella spiralis in the flesh of swine. This same organism is endemic in goats & sheep in the Near East. If your assertion were correct, both of these animals would have been forbidden as well. The proscriptions/prescriptions are all a part of Divine law. The reasons for them are not of this world, but of the discipline to make of us, B'nai Yisroel, a nation of priests, & a light unto the nations. We are commanded not to seethe the kid in it's mother's milk, this being a particularly nasty pagan practice. Cults such as the followers of ba'al pe'or (y'mach shmo) would milk a mother goat/lamb for six days, on the sixth night they would bring the seven day-old kid to their assembly, put it in a cauldron filled with the milk of it's mother, & boil it to death. The mother was present during this wretched act, hearing it's offspring bleat in agony as the milk grew hotter & hotter, culminating in the horrific death of the kid. Then the mother was slaughtered, tossed into the cauldron with the kid, braised & the resultant foul mixture was eaten by the assembly as an act of devotion to their false, idolatrous deity. To avoid any possibility of even a shade of mimicry of this horror, we will never cook / consume milk products or meat products together, nor even within 6 hours of each other. Not to mention we maintain dairy dishes, pots, stove, microwave etc. & the same for meat. The twain never cross paths. Meat dishes are washed in the meat dishwasher, dairy in the dairy. Not all fish are kosher either. For a fish to be kosher, it must have both fins & scales. There is no presumptive health difference between a scaled & finned red snapper, & an eel. The difference is only that we are commanded not to eat the eel, or any of it's by products.
By the way, I dare say Moshe Rabbeinu had far more *Relevant* information than any human, or group of humans posses today.

Yehudasf ..........I always enjoy reading your posts. Our beliefs are a bit different but also very the same. We also do not eat fish without scales and fins. We are not a denomination...We study Gods word scripture by scripture.....verse by verse .....We have a Christian rock band. As some of you may know......I lost my baby on Sunday and am probably being a bit more sensitive to animal care. I just miss her sooooooo much
