Since there are more and more posts being generated each day, as well as new members joining, which results in a higher demand for photos, I thought I'd do a little guide! I hope it's complete enough for all you members and helps anyone who may be computer illiterate, or one's who are just out to help improve their own knowledge of these things! If you have any questions or anything, don't be afraid to say somethin! Enjoy!
Guide to Posting Images (NOTE: For those of you who do not have your own image editing software, you can resize your photos at http://www.IrfanView.com ) To upload a photo, go to the top of the page, click on Album at the top (of any page), and a drop down menu will appear. (*Click Here* if you can't easily find the Album link above) Then click on Upload Photos. From there it should be pretty self explanitory. If you have photos of a specific bird, I.E. a cockatiel, you would put the photo into the Cockatiel Album via the drop down menu. Please try to keep specific photos where they belong so that they do not take up space in other areas. There are specific spots for species specific, aviary photos, The Flock for more than one species of bird in a photo, even Member Photos of shots of yourself, and a Multimedia Clips for those special videos of yours! After you have selected which gallery the photo will be posted in, you then browse your computer for a photo to upload, then add a title and description. Once you have filled in the fields, press 'Upload/Submit'. Under 'Extra Options', you can also upload an image via another website. All you need is the URL of the photo. To get the URL, simply right click on the image, copy the Address (URL), and paste it into the box. (examples below) Then below the image, hit the 'Upload/Submit' button. You will be taken to a second page where you can put the image into a specific category, give it a name, and description. Hit "Process" and the image will be uploaded directly into the BirdBoard Photo Album! ![]() ![]() To post the image from the album into a post, there is an address below the photo (once uploaded). The address is below 'Aditional Options' viewed here (boxed in red). ![]() Just click on 'copy to clipboard', then paste it into a post. If you wanted, you could also highlight the text and press Ctrl + C. You can right click in the post and select 'Paste' or press Ctrl + V. The photo itself will then appear in your post once you hit 'Submit'. If you want, you can position the image within the post at right, center, or left buy adding the alignment code around the image code. Here is an image to show it… Notice the tags at the very beginning and end of each image code??? ![]() If done correctly you’ll end up with something like this (except with images of course) Left Alignment Right Alignment Center Alignment One can also show thumbnails of the photos, and when you click on the thumbnails, a new page with the larger photo will open. The thumbnail of the image is the one displayed in the specific gallery among the thumbnails of other photos. Here are the codes for HTML and BBC… ![]() If you do this correctly, you’ll end up with this (Note: click on the photo) This guide may be confusing when mentioning the HTML and BBC code together. So try to remember this: HTML uses angle brackets (< >) or greater than and lesser than signs. HTML is also used in designing websites. BBC code uses box brackets ([ ]) and is mainly used in forums and boards. BirdBoard uses BBC code. ------------------------------------------------------------ If however you do not want to upload the photo into the BirdBoard Album, you can upload a photo (or several) into a post. When creating a new thread, or replying to one (make sure you either hit "Post Reply" or "Go Advanced" if you are replying to an already made thread/post), there are "Additional Options" below the post. Scroll down to the second box in Additional Options, which reads "Attach Files". Click on "Manage Attachments" and a small window will open (be sure that you don't have any firewalls or pop-up blockers on!). The first little box in this window says "Upload File from your Computer". In this box, click on "Browse" to find the specific image you want to upload, and once you have found it and submitted (the image address from your computer will be displayed to the left of "Browse"), click on "Submit". This way, images will show up below your posts as thumbnails, and one can then click on the image to view a larger photo. Or even if all the info about posting a photo into a post is confusing, you can also use the "Manage Attachments" to direct link an image from another site into the forum.... This may prove to be good to use where sites don't allow direct linking. Just enter the image url into the second box below, and press 'Upload'! As far as the two images below, the first one of two budgies was uploaded off of my computer. The second one, Casey my tiel, is an old photo that is off of a website that doesn't allow direct linking.
