This march, some friends and I are takign a road trip to SD to see sea world, and we were going to see the San Diego Zoo, but someone said it is really far away from actual San Diego... is this true... I supposse I could look it up, but i wanted to get an opinion from someone who had actually been there...
thanks,

Hi there. Nope, the Zoo is real close to Sea World. What they were probably refering to was the Wild Animal Park, which is in my opinion worth every bit of the little bit of a drive to get there.
I am fortunate to live right in between the two of them, actually close to the WAP than to the Zoo.
When in March are you going to be here?

Cool

If you are doing both parks, I recommend you pick up one of the San Diego city passes..will save you a little money in the long run, and give you a couple extra perks!

OR..what I did, since I knew I was going to spend more than a single day at San Diego zoo.. become a member!

As a member, you not only get a year long pass for yourself, but it also includes two free guest passes, and discounts on the bus tour, as well as lots of other perks...including the ZOO NEWS magazine..which I love and anticipate every month!! One membership can go a LONG way, especially if you can split the cost of a single membership and enjoy the perks 3 ways!

Oh, and the membership is tax deductible ( consult your local tax accountant for actually tax deductability! LOL)

Did I tell you I LOVE the San Diego zoo?

Sea world is great- I prefer Orlando however. The 3d lighthouse is a hoot however, and the Atlantis ride totally rocks WAY over Orlando!

You'll love the zoo.... it's absolutely wonderful!

As already said, it is not far away... the wild animal park IS a bit of a drive, but I highly recommend it as well. If I had to pick one over the other, I would definitely say go to the zoo; it's a MUST SEE for a visitor to San Diego. Not only for the animals, but for the plant collections as well.

Good Luck!

When you get there...ask the information booth when the Macaw Free Flight Fly Over is. Twice a day they release 10 or so fully flighted large Macaws (all different species) right at the entrance and allow them to fly back to their aviary. That's my favorite part.
