congratulations on your puppies. Babies are always very cute!

I hope you will consider neutering him so you don't wind up with another litter this summer.

The Mom is not my dog, we planned this. And No I don't plan on neutering him anytime soon. All the pups are spoken for. Please don't lecture me on the pro's and con's of neutering, all of my dogs have been shelter dogs except for Tiger and Sophie who are CKC registered. This was a one time event.

If this was a one time event, why wouldn't you neuter him? Are you going to use him again for more litters?

I have no plans to lecture. The puppies are already here.

My other dogs are fixed except for Sophie who is too young yet so there is no need to neuter him. Being a Dachshund I have to worry about him gaining weight so he doesn't have back problems and they always gain weight after they are neutered no matter how careful a diet and he's on a very good one.My neighbor has one that is terribly overweight that I worry about.

I have heard that back problems are a big concern for Doxies.

Just be careful. Intact males can smell a female in heat that is up to 2 miles away. It can make them do crazy things to try to get to her.

They are adorable!! Congratulations!!

We have 2 female dachshunds, both spayed. One is slightly overweight, although she is rescue with a deformed foot, so she can't run. Our other girl is a BIG hunter...she is out running after rabbits all day. She is in great shape...but I can see how if you have an indoor non-hunter how they would very quickly get overweight.

Just an aside, Lucky, the dog in great shape, went paralyzed in her back legs several years ago. We spent thousands of dollars on her surgery, and she can walk now. So bad backs may happen whether they are overweight or not.

Sooo Cute ! I wish I could play with them. I am weak when it comes to puppies !!! Always want to bring one home.

My Beagle/Chow mix has degenerative spinal disease. She has good days and bad. We switched her to IAMS weight control and I can't believe the difference it has made ! She still looks a bit plump but she has the loose skin like a Chow does. We also noticed our 14 year old Shepard mix has become more frisky since switching to this diet.

Tiger is an indoor dog most of the time, always by my side and we have a fenced in yard and he does not jump. I have a stool next to the bed so he can get up and down without hurting himself. Sophie on the other hand can jump! She bounces around all day, her I have to watch plus she's only 5 months old.
Dachshunds are like potatoe chips, you can't have just one! LOL!
