Her temperature was normal. He didn't draw any blood to do a white count, though.

She still hasn't used the litterbox and is now in there purring, by herself, in the middle of the night. Cats in great pain will purr and sound just like they are happy. B/c she hasn't eliminated anything, I tend to think that this isn't a happy purr.

I'm going to call the vet first thing to see if I can get some painkillers for her and if there's anything I can do to help her go to the bathroom.

Samantha went to Heaven about 2 hours ago. The vet said her bladder was even bigger than it was yesterday and that she was in considerable pain from it. Her walking had deteriorated to the point that she was falling over on her side.

I stayed with her until she fell into a coma. I squatted down so I was eye-level with her on the table and she snuggled up against me which she had never done before. It was peaceful, more peaceful than I had thought it would be.

She lived for 8 months: 2 as a stray kitten outside, 3 in a tiny shelter cage with 4 other kittens, and the last 3 here in my home--running free, eating lots of good food, playing with other cats, and living a relaxed life.

I may not have been able to ultimately save her from being put to sleep but I was able to allow her to live the life that every cat should know.

I'm so very sorry? I have been where you are today, a sad and very heartbreaking place to be. Thank you for taking such good care of the kitten while you had her…………

I am so sorry that Samantha has passed- but you gave her what she needed, and she did not die cold, frightened unhappy or unloved. That makes it all worthwhile.

I'm so sorry to hear about Samantha. At least you can take comfort in the fact that she lived the last few months of her life happily with you, instead of a stray with no food, out in the cold, or in a cage.
