[quote=felisdomesticus]they get worms straight from their mother--the pregnancy hormones activate the egg cysts in the female.[quote]

"NOTE: If the mother has no intestinal parasites and no encysted larvae in her tissues...the pups or kittens will be born worm free."

Um- isnt that what Felisdomesticus just said? Or is there a difference?

in any case they had roundwormws. I mixed some rice and pumpkin in with their dinner and the vet also gave me something to stop the diarrhea.

Now we just have to cross our fingers that the smell improves!

No..she indicated that ALL puppies get worms from their mother..it's just not so. The only way that a puppy can contract worms is 1. if the mother has them OR 2. mother lives in a kennel where worms have been diagnosed and treated.

My dog NEVER had worms, AND my puppies never had worms. Worms are not automatic occurances in puppies..there have to be reasons for the puppies to get them.

You might want to try mixing up some Oxiclean. It really takes care of organic stains and bad smells. I think its the best stuff around.

Once again shows that I am never to old to learn! I truly thought that all puppies were born with worms. Thanks for the information - I am a bit smarter today!

My understanding is that they all do. In all of my fostering experience with puppies, I have NEVER seen a litter that didn't have worms. Same goes for kittens.

You are lucky that your girl never had them!

Oh for goodness sakes? Is there a vet in the house to help with this?

I certainly could be wrong. But it is very rare for pups not to get worms from their mothers. I have had babies from probably 2 dozen different litters over the past year and they all have come to me with the huge bloated bellies, stinky poop, and bloody diarrhea that indicates worms.

That's why vets automatically worm all puppies that come through their office. It's a very common thing.

Like I said--the important thing is that they were treated for it and will stop making such huge messes in my kitchen shortly!
