Smile Turkey, anyone? - Alot of photos large loading time

Ok so here comes the first set of photos - Tarsus, Cukurova, Turkey - Birthplace of St. Paul, Home of Cleopatra and Anthony for many years, The Great Silk Road passes through it...

These are the modern apartment blocks - It's near to impossible to find work in the countryside in Turkey, unless you're a farmer so the majority of people are in the towns, living in these apartment blocks.

These are some photos of the old houses people used to live in - in the Tarsus area. Some have been restored some haven't.

This is a type of Turkish desert made from nuts and some type of gelatin..

This is one of the churches in Tarsus -

This is one of the mosques in Tarsus -

This is St. Paul's Well (not a great shot but it was closed when we went so I took it from outsidel..)

This is the lake and a view of the lake at sunset (the road is very bad down to it - if the government did something with the lake - a good road to enable people to get down to it easily some benches for picnics amenities etc it would be such a beautiful place..

And lastly (for now) Some photos of people that I thought would make good photos... Some kids playing in the street and a family walking hand in hand.. An old shop decorated with knick knacks to sell..

I have taken all these photos myself, feel free to save and use them if anyone wishes

Merhaba Michelle, Thank you so much for sharing those. I am nearly in tears here as I remember only too well streets like those with the vendors on the corners from the days when I was really really young, lol. My favorite haunt was Izmir. Thanks again for taking me back for a little while.

Hi Michelle, I have backpacked all over Turkey in my younger days and just love it! We were in Istanbul in Oct 2004 and Dubai too. I just got back from a vacation in Egypt with two day stopover in Kuwait and overnight in Pattaya, Thailand on the way back. I used to be a professional belly dancer which is why I go to the Middle East so often!

Tiki - In 2 years after uni I plan on doing a bit of backpacking myself, and alot of travelling. The middle East grabs me alot more than other areas - the people are really different. However little they have - they always offer what they can to you.. it touches my heart. I love the way of life here.

Strange example but we went into a shop the other day to buy some nails - we got them and asked how much - he replied that's ok. I gave him more than they were worth - just because it was obvious he has very little money - a tiny shop a hard life and yet here he is giving away something for free...

Did you find it hard to return after being in the middle East? I find it very hard when I've been living here and then return to Ireland.
