PETA is B..ogu..S

Hi All,
For those that keep bringing up PETA as an example of ANIMAL RIGHTS groups, you need to realize that they are not even taken seriously by Humane Societies. They are so full of garbage, it's incredible.
I've provided this link before: http://www.petakillsanimals.com/index.cfm

This is factual, It's been on various news programs. PETA collects a lot of money but they are not what they want you to believe they are.

Bill
PS: It is very possible to be an Animal Rights advocate and own pets. You just do the best you can for your pets. Being an Animal Rights advocate doesn't mean you have to let your goldfish swim free or your cockatiel fly free somewhere along the interstate. It just means that you treat your pets with the respect and dignity that they deserve to be treated with.

PETA has done some good I am sure but I believe that they have done more harm in making people believe that everyone who is pro-animal rights are rabid extremists like they are.

Bill,
When you go into Animal Activists and Animal Welfare you get the same "crap" but it is mainly to put an end to pet ownership. Unfortunately there are some rescue groups following the same and the rescue groups can do lots of damage. Careful of the ones that state they are to advocate standards for pet stores and breeders. If you don't have a store and don't breed how can you set standards?
Glad you did the research to find out for yourself just do a little more about other groups. Many are not PETA but have a link to them or they can be PETA followers operating under "rescue" and you never know because you are not told. It is really doing a number on the pet industry nationwide.
There is one rescue I have donated many items to over the past couple of years. He doesn't have an adoption fee but you need to volunteer time to him in order to adopt a bird. I didn't agree with that one because not everyone has the time to donate but could be great parrot owners. I had to rethink that one and have come to the conclusion that I agree with this. However, the voluteering idea didn't stop me from donating to his foundation. It is the foundation's policy and therefore respected that because who am I to set his standards?
The other group that I do work with is "for profit" and does not have an adoption fee either. They do not rely on donations.

I happen to like PETA (People for the Eating of Tasty Animals) ... or are we talking something else here?

BTW, go to the FBI site and look to see reports. PETA is listed as one of them. Last page classifies PETA as a "terrorist group". All over a commercial with GM using a pig in a crash test.

No. It's to put an end to irresponsible pet ownership and pet breeding. One would think that the sheer numbers of companion animals who are sitting in (and killed in) animal shelters would validate the idea of responsible breeding, selling, and ownership.

Some people who breed want the very best lives for their animals and have an extensive screening process. Others just want $$$ and will sell to anyone with the money. There's a difference there. I support one, the other I don't. See how that works?

I guess you don't realize with what you are saying is putting an end to pet ownership. No more stores, breeders etc.. and you are supporting the Animal Rights in this way.
You can't tell people they can't breed or sell. It's not up to you. Unfortunately there are breeders who maybe shouldn't be breeding but when you hurt one you hurt all of them.
Take a look at "gun control". Criminals still get the guns by illegal means to commit the crime. Does that mean the citizen with the right to bear arms according to the "Constitution" can't have one? It doesn't help the problem.
Make it easier to obtain a concealed weapon permit for the citizen and the crime rate drops.
Putting restrictions on breeders does not stop the alleged cruelty, alleged bad breeders etc.. They will find away around the restictions. So what you have done in the process is stop sales hence putting everyone you can out of business. Again you can't make everyone else responsible for a dog or cat that ends up in the shelters.
So in the mean-time with these rantings you start taking business away from those who are trying to make a living. In the dog and cat industry the movement is to financially hurt businesses as I have been reading a lot of it on the internet. The idea is to shut down stores and then you go after the breeders and one wonders why I have such a problem with rescues. You can't take the law into your own hands with your mouth since the USDA won't change a thing. Why? Government has restrictions but they can't tell a store they are not to sell or where they get their animals from. With all the stricter legislation that has been before the govenment Federal and State it will push the good breeders out. Then what do you think you will have left?

The guys who breed dogs, cats, birds, midgets, and monkies in cages the size of egg cartons and are up in their behinds in poo. In other words terrible uncaring breeders. Would I get a dog from a rescue, prolly so seeing I'm interested with the next dog on skipping the puppy stage. They're cute and all but heh with an adult dog what you see is what you get.

Obviously you have a problem with cage sizes. There is a minimum requirement set by the USDA and if it doesn't meet the requirement then something can be done. Other than that it is "your" opinion on the cage size.
I haven't heard anyone offer to pay for new cages here or the larger space I would require since Animal Rights is having a problem with the sizes although the USDA and Animal Control doesn't think I have broken any law reguarding the issue.
If you see a problem then do something about it. Stop complaining otherwise.
