Well, Harley in any case, but that just reaffirmed it.

There's something not quite right about the noise the Honda is making...
Can't quite put my finger on it though..

I'm glad you mentioned BMW. I was going to, but they are more in the luxury aspect of the bike (heated grips, etc).....I've ridden one BMW bike and I fell in love with it. It would be a nice cross country bike, but I would still want a nice Harley to just...ride.

BMWs are more for endurance and cross country trips as well as the luxury (which is needed for longer trips). I don't think Harleys compare IMO.

I really want a Harley sportster, but since I just got my motorcycle license last summer, bought a Honda Shadow. I'd rather dump my $3,000 bike (used) than a new $15,000 bike! My Honda is a nice bike though. In fact, a lot of people think it's a Harley initially. Pam

Having ridden BMWs (R50, R69s and K75s) for 20-something years and Harleys (Fat Boy) for the past 16, and having ridden them here, there and everywhere in this country, I can say that my experience has been that the BMW has it for technical goodies and wonderful acceleration and braking, as well as good handling in the twisties and a truly superior warranty and the Harley has it for "that certain something" involving unnecessary noise and general ambiance.
