Rant/vent/ angry and what else?

Going to the bank this morning, I came to the end of my street to see something which I had hoped was a newspaper on the ground. Wrong. It was a pure white dove, completely squished and the only thing recognizable was his little pink leg, and closed band.
I am so angry, that first, who ever hit this bird, did not need to do so. The poor thing was off to the side of the road, and it was at an small intersection, where they could have gone around.
Second, that this poor dove was probably released over the weekend at some wedding. IT was too white and clean to have been out in this area. This was a release, absolutley no doubt!
Now, my theme at my wedding was Doves, however I did NOT and would never consider taking a tame/hand raised animal to release and *hoped* it could survive the elements, find food, escape birds of prey, and not be run over!
I feel like finding this bride and taking her in her prisitne white dress, and smooshing her face into whats left of this poor little bird.
I chose to take a differnt route home from the back as to avoid getting aggitated and upset again.

I had to get that off my chest.....I'm sure many of you can agree.

Poor bird.

Poor bird! If it had a leg band, it must have been an escaped pet though. Where do people get the doves released at weddings anyway? I've never seen it done, I hope they don't do it here, too many potential predators.

Doves released at weddings are much like homing pigeons...they have been 'trained' to go back to their home port. http://www.adovesnest.com/lofthandler.htm That Dove probably met an untimely demise.....It's doubtful that someone would intentionally run it over.

They usually release homing pigeons at weddings instead of doves. Last year, we had one visit us and stop for refueling before he started on his trip back home. He was very sweet.

Good grief.
I hope it wasn't the bird, which I think was a grey dove, that I saw in a little bitty cage out by a mailbox in a driving thunderstorm the other day.

People are stupid. They make me sick sometimes.

Lisa, I am so sorry that you had to see that. Some people just suck. You can always look through the paper to see who had a wedding recently with doves released!

Well if it was a perfect world, all the doves would be trained to return like homing pigeons, however they are not. I know someone who was in the wedding business, and refused to release for that reason. Maybe the good establishements do train them, but many do not.

I went back past today, and someone scraped him up. there was only down left.

Poi, yes, they are real cute when they visit for a while. I have a friend who has a beautiful home, and some homing pigeon decieded he wanted to stay....At first they didnt want him there, but then got used to him cuz he was friendly and would follow them, an dthen one day he was gone.

I guess I am so mad also, because I did not mention this when I saw it, however, about 2 months ago I was shocked to see a congo grey run over near trenton. I have been searching the ads to see ones that might be close to let the owner know, but I have not seen any. Besides it would be real crewl(sp) for me to spead the word, since I did not have the guts to go read the band. That poor baby too, was picked up the same day I saw it, because it haunted me so badly I went back. I did not go knock on the doors infront of the houses because its not a nice neighborhood. However, it looked as if the bird was trying to climb up on the curb.

Before I get questioned if I am sure it was a grey....I am POSITIVE. lets just leave it at that. I went home to get sick.

yes, and some people just suck.

I work in a petstore, mgr. of the bird dept., and I get calls all the time from people wanting doves to release at weddings, funerals, birthdays ect.....
I always tell them that even if I could get them doves, I wouldn't. They always get the same response.. " So you want to take doves that are used to being in captivity, being fed every day and protected from predators and release them into the wild not caring what happens to them?" "I don't think so, maybe someone else can help you, but I won't". People get mad, but I don't care. Why can't they just release balloons?
