I'm gonna be in DC
Not finalized yet, but a very good likely possibilty I will be in DC from October 30th through November 3rd. Travel days are the 30th and the 3rd so really my days actually in DC will be the 31st the 1st and the 2nd.
Anyone in the area? My husband will be in meetings all day and I am free to roam the city!

I will actually be staying in Landsdown VA. I plan on renting a car. I am scared to drive since I have never driven anywhere but here in small Juneau with only a couple stop lights, but I am going to try to be brave!

Just don't plan to go anywhere during rush hour. It starts around 3 to 4 pm. Going west is a big traffic nightmare and in the morning it's going east.
You'll be in Loudoun County. Nice place but growing. Alice |

I am going to drive a bit while I am in Portland/Beaverton so that I can get a "feel" for city driving. Most people would not understand driving here. One lane a few stop lights, nothing scary barely any merging. Never over 55mph. And we only have ONE 55mph road. No highway, no freeway, no on or off ramps. Nada.
So when I drive in Portland, maybe that will make me more comfortable driving in DC.

Dayna:
The DC beltway is really scary. Its something like 6 lanes wide and everyone is either in a hurry or tourists that are lost. Makes for a very dicey commute. Also, while driving around DC, beware the Diplomats and their families. Should you have an accident involving one, you have no protection under US laws. They have diplomatic immunity. I won't drive in the District anymore because of that. I only live about 1 hour away, but I can't come to DC. However, if you decide to come north into Maryland, I'm pretty close and the commute isn't awful.

How close is where you are in Maryland to Landsdown VA? I have no idea of what the map even looks like over there!

Dayna,
Sorry this is such a late response! Haven't been on lately. Anyway, I live in Maryland (about 20 minutes from Nancy) and work in DC everyday. I would be more than happy to take a day off and show you the sights. My sister lives in PA and tells everyone that she rents me by the hour as a tour guide! Anyway, I recommend that you drive ... or cab to the Metro station in Vienna, VA or somewhere close ... I can find out for you ... and take the subway system into the city. That is definitely the way to go around here. Our subway is very clean and pretty easy to use. I use it every day going to work. Believe me when I say, you DON'T want to drive in DC. Let me know if we can work something out. We could possibly plan to hook up with a few other OPL people too! Again, let me know. Looking forward to meeting you ... if possible. Pam |
