Fish Story
I took my 6 year old niece Bayle to Wal Mart with me on Saturday. (I'm her favorite guy in the whole world, besides her dad.)
I always buy her a little something whenever we go out, so we were looking in the toy department, I'm thinking...oh, she probably wants a baby doll or a make up kit or some girly thing like that....up she comes with a Dora the Explorer fishing pole. She says, "Uncle Samm, if you buy me this fishing pole, I'll catch a big fish for you!" So off we went with her new fishing pole, got home and found a hook with a rubber worm attached. She's standing on the pontoon boat, patiently casting (yes, this little 6 year old redneck can cast a good 20 feet) I'm thinking, OK this will last another 20-30 minutes and she'll be tired of it. About 5 minutes later, this is what she reeled in. She caught me a big fish, and turned him loose after we took a few pics.

She lives in Oklahoma, so I don't get to see her very often.....they came down for a week before she starts school, they'll be leaving Thursday.

We certainly didn't expect that at all! She was so excited, she almost fell off the boat! and no, we didn't have fish for supper, I explained to her about catch & release...and that we can't keep them out of the water for too long, she was real good about it, and we let him go....maybe she can catch him again next summer.

Dude, how am I supposed to have fish and chips for dinner if all you all ever do is catch and release? *grins*
I am MOST impressed by both your niece's fishing skills, and the kindness you showed to the fish. Maybe he'll gain a couple of inches by next year--if so, make sure he doesn't pull her out of the boat next time!
