Here's some size comparison shots. These are the third largest - I've seen sets that are two sizes bigger than these.

Brass.

Size comparison shots. These are my daughter's sets - considerably smaller than mine.

Steel (small)
Steel (small) in hand
Steel (small) 4 in hand

in answer to your question about why brass:

1)Steel (chrome) seems to show wear faster.
2)The chrome starts to wear off in tiny flakes.
3)Steel set's chiming sound kinda "tinny" and harsh.

10The Brass set seems to wear better.
2)No flaking
3)The Brass set's chiming has a cleaner, more mellow sound.

I think I've only seen the small ones.

Your hands 'look' big but not huge - I think that 25 cent piece wouldn't be much bigger in my hand. My hand is probably narrower & thinner.
Soooo ... the larger balls would be OK for a woman or would they be too heavy to manipulate? (Again no puns intended )

Is it hard to learn?
How did you learn & how did you find the right size to use?

ok, I have never in my life before now said this, BUT, Buteo, I really like your brass balls. Awesome design on them. After reading this thread I am going to look into getting a set myself.
