My husband had smoked for 20+ years. He went to a hypnotist to quit. This was a one-on-one session; not a group thing. That was 7 years ago. He hasn't smoked since. He said that it wasn't a magic bullet; you had to want to quit. The hypnotist taped their session and he had to listen to it for a week at night at home. The one thing I remember that he had to do was eat oranges. The hypnotist said something with the citric acid cleans the nicotine out of your body. I remember him stressing that you couldn't drink orange juice; you actually had to eat oranges. Anyway ... could be malarky, but it worked for him. Just a thought! Good luck! Pam

I know someone who has quit from hypnosis sucessfully. I've tried the laser stuff which, remarkably worked well...for a while. I'm down to smoking only when social - booze is the devil, I swear! It's all the power of the mind... which is why I think hypnosis works the best... and water. Drink lots of water. Two weeks into being smoke free I would get terrible cravings. I just kept telling myself to be good today and tomorrow, tomorrow I will have a cigarette...but tomorrow never came because I kept telling myself that ever day. It feels great waking up not coughing up a lung.

When I became pregnant I used a hypnosis because I didn't want to worry about side effects. 1 session, never had another cigarette. Worked so well that I used hypnobirthing for labor. I had a casette tape I took home and the first few days I listed to it several times a day. I am smoking again unfortunately but plan to quit and will use hypnosis again. I had quit 4 times prior to the hypnosis, I used the patch, nicotine gum, Welbutrin (spelling) and will power without success. You have to want to quit and be positive that the hypnosis will work - or it won't according the the guy I went to.

Using the patch, I quit for a year and a half, then started again last January. Why do we do such stupid things? Would be interested in hearing more about this "shot", also the new medication coming out. I tried Welbutrin but had to stop using it because of palpitations.

I also used hypnosis many years ago. The best thing about it is that it makes you relaxed and happy. That's not the usual side effect one expects when you give up something you are addicted to. My hypnotist also stressed you really had to want to quit and recommended repeat sessions on the anniversary dates of your first session, annually. I think its the best anti smoking treatment available.

I went back to smoking when the baby developed breathing difficulties because he had RSV and developed bronchiolitis (I know isn't that the biggest contradiction you've ever heard????) We had to take him to the ER because his respirations were too fast he had an asthma type attack and his lips were blue. I was so freaked out in the ER I went out to the parking lot and had a cigarette.

I always went back when the kids hit 2 for some reason! After my daughter was born I didn't start again until we were moving to GA. The stress of selling a house on your own with 3 little ones did me in. I quit a few years after we moved then had such an urge for a cigarette went back last summer. My daughter is constantly on my case and I don't smoke when I'm going anywhere with her so I know I can stop for like 4 hours at a time but the minute we get home I have one. It doesn't help that my husband and oldest son smoke too but if we all quit at the same time we might kill each other! LOL! I know I'm not ready yet to stop again but hopefully soon.

Last December when I stopped smoking I used it all to quit. Welbutrin, which I stopped taking because I wanted to take off everybodies head while on it, the patch, nicotine gum, and the cigarest program. Sadly the gum really hurts my teeth. When I make up my mind to stop and I have enlisted help I stop. Its staying stopped. Smoking is hands down the hardest thing I have ever tried to quit.
