Roger Waters tonight.........
whooo hooooooooooooooo!!
I'm all excited about the concert tonight....i have seen him a few times, but my husband has not. I found my 20 year old tee shirt for his first concert, that reads "oh by the way" on the front, "which ones PINK" on the back..... for those of you unsure of who he is, Roger Waters is the master mind behind Pink Floyd. tho, the group is a bit before my time, I have older brothers who live and breath Pink Floyd, and I grew up on them. I have seen Pink Floyd about 8 times, and they cant compair with Roger solo. He will be doing "dark side of the moon" in its entirety, and parts of the Wall. I'm designated driver for tonight, so the hubby can enjoy and remember his youth.

Very Cool!!
That's one of the reasons I didn't see Floyd the last couple of times - it just wasn't the PF I know without Roger. I saw 2 concerts on his Radio Chaos tour years ago. I loved it!!!! The song "Powers That Be" couldn't be truer. He sure has an unusual imagination. LOL! I still have that shirt too!!

Thanks guys..........had a great time....
he actually got Boooo'd for his political views, (that have no place at a consert)but the music was fantastic.... alot off the wall, and dark side of the moon. here's a picture I took for you fans.... specially JOE if he see's it.... you jersey shore people look out for a newspaper article about someone finding a 20ft inflatable pig in thier yard..... They brought a large balloon out of a pig, and George and I were asked to move by the staff because we had great seats, and we were in the path of the pig, so it went right over us. To everyones surprise they let the pig go....and it flew away into the sky with a spotlight following it untill it was gone.....and all you saw, was the real full moon in the sky......... George commented about how the aircrafts in the sky must percieve it.... a humungous pig....flying through the air?!?!?!?

I think Pink Floyd and Roger Waters went to court over Gilmore using the "floyd" name...and misrepresenting the band....however, he was allowed to use it, I gather because Waters didnt have rights to the name.... However, Roger Waters is Pink Floyd, and anyone who REALLY likes Pink Floyd, should see Roger in consert... And yes, the voice is still there..... ![]()

Jill, thanks or the correct spelling David Gilmour is best known for his distinctively spacy, atmospheric guitar work for Pink Floyd. Born March 6, 1944, in Cambridge, England, Gilmour was well acquainted with the members of Pink Floyd when they asked him to join their band to supplement the guitar work of the increasingly erratic Syd Barrett. When Barrett's mental breakdown made it impossible for him to continue with the group, Gilmour became a permanent contributing member in time for their second album, 1968's A Saucerful of Secrets. Gilmour has recorded solo albums during periods of Pink Floyd inactivity, including 1978's moody David Gilmour, 1984's more melodic About Face (after the breakup of the Roger Waters-led lineup), and 2006's laid-back, lyrical On an Island (which became a Top Ten hit). Waters, credited with writing nearly the entire album, conceived "The Wall" to be a multimedia event from the beginning. Eventually, the album would result in an elaborate, though financially unsuccessful tour, as well as a major motion picture, directed by Alan Parker ("The Commitments," "Avita," "Fame," "Shoot the Moon"). Waters had originally envisioned himself in the lead role — an opinion that in the broader sense was creating increasing friction within the band — as well as genuine concert footage of the Floyd, used in the film. In the end, the band would be relegated to appearing only on the film's soundtrack, and a then-little-known singer named Bob Geldof (Who I share my Bday with)would play the part of Pink. Geldof was lead vocalist of the Boomtown Rats at the time, and would go on to fame as the organizer of the Live Aid concert a few years later. Formed in 1965 by Syd Barrett(My Sydney is named after him), Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Rick Wright, Pink Floyd soon became the unofficial house band for London's psychedelic counterculture. The group, named after American bluesmen Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, gained an early reputation for catering to patrons of London's infamous UFO club with cerebral improvisations and intense light shows. With Barrett's mental decline and eventual replacement by David Gilmour after the group's debut LP, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" (1967), the band evolved into a master of concept albums, mostly under the direction of Waters. "Dark Side of the Moon" (1973) remained on the Billboard chart for a record 15 years, becoming the fourth best-selling record of all time. "Wish You Were Here" (1975) and "The Wall" (1979) continued the Floyd reputation for solid songwriting, world-class musicianship, and meticulous production. All along, Pink Floyd treated audiences to sold-out stadium concerts filled with laser lights, fog machines, and giant inflatables. In 1975, during the recording of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" album, Barrett showed up unannounced at the studio -- ironically, during the recording of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," a song about him. He had become overweight and shaved his eyebrows; the other members didn't recognize him at first. "Wish You Were Here" was dedicated to Barrett. Following Waters' bitter split from the band in 1983, the group fell under the leadership of Gilmour, and continued to produce albums and break concert records while Waters pursued a solo career. On Jan. 17, 1996, Pink Floyd was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Gilmour, Mason and Wright were in attendance; Waters and Barrett were not. A decade later, Barrett died at his Cambridge home, succombing to complications of diabetes at the age of 60. History Syd Barrett-led era: 1965–1968 Pink Floyd evolved from an earlier band, formed in 1964, which was at various times called Sigma 6, The Meggadeaths, The Screaming Abdabs, and The Abdabs. When this band split up, some members — guitarists Bob Klose and Roger Waters, drummer Nick Mason, and wind instrument player Rick Wright — formed a new band called Tea Set, and were joined shortly thereafter by guitarist Syd Barrett, who became the band's primary vocalist as well. Barrett's decline As the band became more and more popular, the stresses of life on the road and a significant intake of psychedelic drugs took their toll on Barrett, whose mental health had been deteriorating for several months. Once Barrett's departure was formalized in April 1968, producers Jenner and King decided to remain with him, and the six-way Blackhill partnership was dissolved. The band adopted Steve O'Rourke as manager, and he remained with Pink Floyd until his death in 2003. Finding their feet: 1968–1970 Musically, this period was one of experimentation for the band. Gilmour, Waters and Wright each contributed material that had its own voice and sound, giving this material less consistency than the Barrett-dominated early years or the more polished, collaborative sound of later years. Waters mostly wrote low-key, jazzy melodies with dominant bass lines and complex, symbolic lyrics, Gilmour focused on guitar-driven blues jams, and Wright preferred melodic psychedelic keyboard-heavy numbers. Breakthrough era: 1971–1975 This is the period in which the Floyd shed their association with the "psychedelic" scene (and its association with Barrett) and became a distinctive band that are difficult to classify. The divergent styles of Gilmour, Waters and Wright (Mason's writing contributions to the group were minimal) were merged into a unique sound. This era contains what many consider to be two of the band's masterpiece albums, The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. The sound became polished and collaborative, with the philosophic lyrics and distinctive bass lines of Waters combining with the unique blues guitar style of Gilmour and Wright's light keyboard melodies. Roger Waters-led era: 1976–1985 During this era, Waters asserted more and more control over Pink Floyd's output. Wright's influence became largely inconsequential, and he was fired from the band during the recording of The Wall. Much of the music from this period is considered secondary to the lyrics, which explore Waters's feelings about his father's death in World War II and his increasingly cynical attitude towards political figures such as Margaret Thatcher and Mary Whitehouse. Although still finely nuanced, the music grew more guitar-based at the expense of keyboards and saxophone, both of which became (at best) part of the music's background texture along with the obligatory sound effects. A full orchestra (even larger than the brass ensemble from Atom Heart Mother) plays a significant role on The Wall and especially The Final Cut. David Gilmour-led era: 1987-1995 Waters announced in December of 1985 that he was departing Pink Floyd, describing the band as "a spent force creatively", but in 1986 Gilmour and Mason began recording a new Pink Floyd album. At the same time, Roger Waters was working on his second solo album, entitled Radio K.A.O.S.. A bitter legal dispute ensued with Waters claiming that the name "Pink Floyd" should have been put to rest, but Gilmour and Mason upheld their conviction that they had the legal right to continue as "Pink Floyd." The suit was eventually settled out of court.[43] The two Pink Floyd albums in this period sound somewhat more like the 1971-1975 era, but lack Waters's distinctive lyrical style. For the first time in Floyd's history outside the orchestral contributions of Ron Geesin and Bob Ezrin, other songwriters made significant contributions to the albums, including Bob Ezrin, who had renewed his friendship with Gilmour.[44] Many songs, especially on A Momentary Lapse of Reason, attempt to capture some of "Comfortably Numb"'s structure, culminating in extended guitar solos from Gilmour. The Division Bell marked Wright's full return to the band, with the song "Wearing the Inside Out" featuring him on lead vocals for the first time since The Dark Side of the Moon's "Time".
