It seems to be restore time for the ol' PC. I have so many "favorites" its going to take awhile to send them to my e-mail so I don't lose them.

Do you have a cd burner on your computer? If so, just burn the file onto a cd.

Good luck, Jim. Just be careful, and back-up first!

Jim if you have a CD burner, external hard drive, or..heck, even a floppy drive, you can save your favorites very easily...

C:\documents and settings\username\favorites

And there are all your favorites and you can just burn them toa CD and restore them later..

oh jeez!!! how simple is that? I completely forgot I didn't have to use the browser to save them!! Except maybe one or two that is one Firefox and not IE.
I'm burnin and burnin, now my CD burner is making funny noises too! Time for an expernal one I guess. I own a Dell so I can't just go to Curcuit City and get an internal one. Next summer it will be time for a new PC. It won't be a Dell. Its not a bad computer I just don't like the idea that I have to buy everything from Dell.

Number one - Jim - In firefox, hit the bookmarks menu, then manage bookmarks...in the new window, hit the file menu and then export and you can save all your firefox bookmarks at once (and import them later to a new installation)

Also, CD burners are generic..period...as are floppies and hard drives....So yes, you can just go to Circuit City and get one and pop it right in there...

The problem comes when your motherboard dies as Dell takes generic motherboards and messes with them just enough that it's easier to buy from them instead of an actual computer shop...

I assume the system's not still under warranty.

I second Kevin recommendation.
You should be able to swap your faulty drive for another internal unit fairly easy. Dell makes swappin a mainboard or sometimes addin RAM a PITA, but the drives are still generic.
Just make sure the Master/Slave jumper is set correctly on the back of the drive,
plug in the data cable & power cable,
secure the screws & it's done.

If it's an external USB2/Firewire unit, it's so easy to hook up it's not fair to even call it an "installation".
The good news is price on the externals has dropped considerably since I got my first one (That one cost $480 and the drive only lasted just over a year).
My new HP system has a good DVD-RW in it, plus I still have got my USB2/Firewire Sony DRU-510U external unit too.

A pretty penny for nothing?
Why?
Didn't they swap the viruses you had for the ones wanted???
Then ya shoulda given them the ugly penny instead of the pretty one.
((Sorry, I couldn't resist.))
