WOW - the exciting careers and jobs here - makes me sorta miss those days....nahhh not really! I am a mom to 17 yo & 15yo boys and a sweet lil girl 6 yo, I recently stepped down as a supervisor for our local school system in transportation and I have gone back to "just driving" a school bus. This affords me more time with our lil girl (she goes with me when she is out of school) and of course it allows me more time with our zoo! I really miss most parts of my job - and I didn't burn any bridges so they want me back when I am ready again - but I do really love being MOM (most days)! My hubby is a software developer and would love to be a ocean biologist (he has many many gals. of SW fish tanks and reefs - infact he is having a new 480 gal. tank delivered here today - should be a very interesting weekend here LOL)

OK now that I have rambled on sorry about that - now ya'll can get back to your exciting careers and lives!

Pam - why would you want to leave Wrightsville Beach??????? I love that area and would love to live at the shore one day!!

For the last 15 years I have been taking in abused, neglected and mistreated animals. Some have come from good home and some from bad home.I used to do elder care. Now for the past 7 years this has been what I do full time.Out of all the jobs I have had this has been the most rewarding.
The animals in my signature are in their forever home.My husband helps care for them.

Wow, so many different kinds of careers! I'm a SAHM (stay at home mom) to an entertaining 5 year old boy and a lovely almost 5 month old little girl. Oh yeah, and my rotten little sunnie Tuc.

I know how you feel! I had to leave my cockatoo Buttons behind when I started school. I missed him a lot.

Currently, I'm the marketing coordinator for a non-profit in Louisiana. Before, I worked in corporate for Enterprise Rent A Car, and for 1 day I was the director of marketing research for a large b2b insurance company--and then Katrina hit and the company removed our field office. I actually do marketing, and not sales, though, so I'm a number and statistics nerd. I spend all day getting statistics and analyzing trends and telling our promotions and advertising team who they need to be selling to and targeting.

Hopefully, though, I only have 5 months left of this. I have applications out to 3 of the top 20 business schools so I can get my doctorate. I'm a nerd, and I need to be doing research and teaching. I was much happier in academia and teaching freshman marketing in grad school.

Getting married in July to a guy I've known since I was a child. I have a female Vosmaeri eclectus, a rescue mini schnauzer, and a rescue Maine Coon. In the marriage, I'll be adding a rescue bengal cat. We're also looking for a CAG in a month or so after my husband-to-be is done with auditions (he's going to grad school for choral conducting.)

Luckily, universities here pay their business doctoral students and offer free tuition if you can get in. Of course, the standards are super high and they accept 1-3 students a year, but that's why I applied to more than one place :)

Eventually, once I am tenured and can teach fewer classes and spend more time working at home, my husband-to-be and I are going to be a foster home for an avian rescue. My mom did this when I was young, and working with a scared and neglected bird until it's trusting and ready to be someone's forever friend is the most rewarding thing I've ever been a part of, besides my pending marriage, of course.

I am a Zoo Keeper and I love every minute of it. It is a very hard job and along with the extrem heat and humidity we have here in Florida it is a killer job but I love the animals and push through. My days are never the same so my job never gets boring, so every day is a adventure.

O Lord. I'm glad I'm not at the starting gate any more...

I'm a Service Engineer Coordinator for a competitive telephone company (telecommunications) and have been in that industry for 22 years now. This basically means, the sales people sell the services and I set up the configuration with the customers and vendors, make sure the work gets done in teh back offices and assist on the installs. We sell only T-1's for medium to large businesses. I love the job, but it too is very demanding and time consuming. Fortunately, If I have installs after 5 pm I can work them from home. The funny part is Newton (my macaw) will sometimes "join in" on my conference calls. he he.

Hang in there... it does take time to adjust and if you're just starting out..."if memory serves" LOL.... you'll be working your butt off for quite awhile to "prove yourself" or depending on the industry, you may work your butt off all of the time.

I work at a small toy factory as "the computer guy" for 4 years. I am the whole IT department. If anything involves a computer, then I know something about it. Everyday I get to do a little bit of everything. Then after work I pickup my 2 kids from grandma's house and come home. (my ex isn't too helpful most of the time).
