My Grandmother just died in January from complications of Alzheimers. I had spent the past 5 years caring for her. I would spend between 4-6 hours with her, there had been MANY times when I spent up to 12 hours with her. When my Grandma died I thought for sure that my 2 cockatiels would be happy that I would be home more. I have noticed though that for the past few weeks my cockatiels have been very angry since I have been home more.

I'm a biology student and independent pet store employee. I've been considering vet school to specialize in exotics but am still exploring at this point...

I am a Catholic Priest. It's not a bad vocation for a bird owner. He pretty much gets most of my attention and since I live where I work he gets to spend a lot of time with me even if it means he is on his desk perch while I try to do some work. Of course he considers the computer keyboard and mouse to be his toys. Before going into the priesthood I had a degree in Accounting and worked in the finance department of a local hospital. It was a career I enjoyed.
I have a brother and two sisters that are/were teachers. The first year is always the worst. If I remember correctly as lesson plans fell into place the following years got easier and the hours a little shorter.

Welcome to being a first year teacher. It will get easier every year (as long as you're teaching the same subjects)...I promise.
I'm a high school chem teacher. When I was a firstie I was at work by 6:00 a.m. some days and some days I was there till 8:00 p.m. Average was being there till 6:00 p.m. When I was commuting earlier this year I was gone from 6:15 and I'd get home earliest at 4:30/5:00. I understand about wanting to be at home and it just not working. Hang in there! We're all free spirits, but it's called reality. Someone has to pay the bills! |

For the past 14 years I've been a paralegal. I work for a great attorney now that allows me time off for frequent vet trips with Morgan. The best part is I work 1 mile from home so I come home for "lunch", which involves playing with Morgan and Casey for a bit. I work basically from 8:30 to 5:00 and no weekends. My husband is disabled and so he's home all day with the fids. Though they aren't very fond of him, it does allow out of the cage most of the day.
