Does any of the members have this birds "Queen of Bavaria's Conure"

I was wondering if anyone here had this bird. I had a chance to see them in person while visiting IN. I can't tell you how pictures don't do these little bird justice. It was amazing. The yellow is like an ultraviolet yellow. They are truly beautiful.

Anyway, not think of getting one at this point in my life, just looking. And wondering if someone had them, what are they like. I heard they don't have the same personality as a conure. Almost like a cockatoo and amazon mixed...Is that true.

I'll post some pics I found on the internet but like I said the pictures don't even begin to show you how beautiful this little bird really is.

They are very rare. I saw some for sale here in San Diego for $5000 each. They sold right away. The San Diego Zoo has a pair in their collection also.

I saw some at a bird show last month and I don't remember what the price for the was, it was not in the thousands or I would have certainly remembered that. They are a beautiful bird. Larger than a blue crown conure. That is about all I know about them.

I too remember reading that they were hard to come by and very expensive. (At least, in the U.S.) I thought that I read somewhere they were not easy to raise in captivity. Might have to do some research. More for my own nosiness. Lord knows I'm not getting another conure!! Pam

The Queen of Bavaria or Golden Conure is the most beautiful and most sought after of all the conures!

A very rare and highly endangered species, the Queen of Bavaria Conure also known as the Golden Conure is protected against collection and importation, as well as being closely regulated in the United States. It is also very expensive.

The Queen of Bavaria Conure does makes a spectacular pet that is very beautiful and affectionate. Being quite intelligent makes them easy to tame and train. They can be good talkers, but like many of the Aratinga conures they can also be very loud.

The Queen of Bavaria Conures or Golden Conures are very lively little birds, though in captivity they will rarely fly. Rather they choose to climb about, perform acrobatic maneuvers, and be quite comical. Human companionship is greatly enjoyed and they can be very affectionate. A favorite activity is to chew, so be sure to provide lots of wooden toys to keep them from becoming bored.

This conure does have one bad habit, they are prone to feather plucking, especially the wings and chest. This is possibly due to their high energy needs, and becoming bored in a limited space without enough activity or stimulation. It is recommended that you give them plenty of toys and freedom of movement, as well as plenty of proteins, calcium, and mineral supplements.

They are rarely seen in the wild and are extremely rare in aviculture. In the United States they require 50CFR captive bred endangered species permit. They were noted as becoming increasingly rare as far back as 1946. These birds are so rare that they should only be kept in pairs for breeding.

The entire United States population springs from about 20 Golden Conures, so genetic diversity is a concern.

Golden conures are among the most expensive conures both to purchase and to care for, although many owners feel that the benefits outweigh the cost. It is one of the rarest Conures in the wild in addition to the pet trade. Many experts believe that these birds should not be kept in captivity unless in a breeding program. It is one of the most desirable birds an aviculturist could possess.

I have seen them at bird expos selling around 1500 a piece. One of the tops on my list of dream birds. I love conures.

I saw one last summer at Parrot Mountain in Pigeon Forge, TN. The man who owns the place said that the birdie was definitely NOT for sale, initially because of it's endangered status (he had a permit for the little guy), but also because they were really attached to him and I can understand why. He was an incredibly friendly little booger... my hubby and I sat for hours and played with him. I think the guy said that they usually sell for around $2500, but most folks who are lucky enough to have one won't sell them.

Sure is a beautiful bird, though!

Thanks Pam...I've been doing the google search for months and I got all that. I know they are expensive and really rare. Just wanted to know if anyone had them and if their personality is really like a cockatoo and amazon mix.

At the San Diego Zoo, I would always visit them and they remembered me. They would make all sorts of vocalizations and climb around like crazy and care for each other (they have a breeding pair). They are about twice the size of a Sun Conure and very playful. Unfortunately they are no longer on display so I visit all the Macaws and the black cockatoo's. SD zoo has one of the largest avian collection in the world.

I would love to see one, but I seriously doubt we even have them here.
