Happy Holidays Everyone!!

I don't know how many of you remember me, but I was on this board heavily about a year ago (before the HD crash!). Well, I'm back, hopefully it will be pretty regularly. :-} It's been a hectic year, but hopefully things are starting to calm down some....

I just wanted to say HI! to all and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Dana, Tiki (scarlet Macaw) & Niki (M2)!

Hi Dana and welcome back! I have been around since pre-crash too (sept 2003), though not nearly as active as I am now. Hey another Tiki bird parent! That must be the most popular name for birds amongst our group. 8)

Thanks all!

Glad to be back!

Gotta love San Diego Graehstone, but my friends and family are leaving by the flocks.... I hope to stay, but I hope the housing market keeps settling down too. I wouldn't be able to live in an appartment with my two big birdies, and yes, we would move before we got rid of them!

Tiki - I have wanted a Scarlet Macaw since the first time I went to the Tiki Room when I was 3 years old.... it was only fitting to name her that!

Hello! I am new since you were last here..but welcome!

so, I wonder why Tiki is so common a name? Does it have a special meaning?

My Tiki is named after the Tiki room at Disneyland. If you haven't been there - it is the first animitronic adventure dreamed up by Walt Disney... it is a "Tiki Hut" filled with animitronic, singing birds that put on a show for its visitors. It's wonderful.

Tiki - definitions by dictionary.com
1.Mythology. A male figure in Polynesian myth, sometimes identified as the first man.
2.A wooden or stone image of a Polynesian god.
3. A Maori figurine representing an ancestor, often intricately carved from greenstone and worn about the neck as a talisman.

I have also heard a good luck charm referred to as a Tiki - hence the "talisman" definition above... There are also Tiki torches, and tiki gods, and tiki huts.... all refering to polonesian style items.
