The 8th of November

Everyone knows Emma and I are big Country fans. One Duo Big & Rich are one of our favorites. Last year on an award ceremony, they introduced one of their new songs, The 8th Of November.
You all also know my Husband is a soldier. It has been his career since age 18, when he received a personal invitation to join the Army from President Nixon. It was the draft. He is a Vietnam Vet. Not many things can touch his soul, and he is very good with hiding his emotions. Sometimes, It appears he has none. Guess its training, and it took some getting used to.
I can no longer watch war stories. I know it is HIS story.
When Big & Rich debuted this song, there wasnt a dry eye in the house.
The Video is on my tube, and I have pasted a link. It might not be suitable to all because it has some war scenes. The helicopters in the video, might very well be my husband, or his craft.
It is the 8th of November.
All gave some, Some gave all.
This is one soldier story.
Turn up your speakers.

I love country as well & I love that song. Many of my family members were soldiers. My uncle later became a cop. My grandfather used to tell me about the war when I was little. I have the flag that they laid on his casket in my room. Crystal

Lisa-
I am actually not a huge country fan, but my former radio station was attached to a country station here in DC and my friends who work there invited me to hang out one night and meet a couple of guys who were coming in to do a kind of "private show" for management...

Those guys were Big & Rich.
I was won over immediately...not only loved their music, but they are SUPER great guys as well.

Dont tell Emma

I actually had tickets to thier philly area show. It ended up being the same day as the Dr Ritchie Fundraiser here in NJ that I was helping with, so I donated them to the local police Department.
I do hope to see them someday.

I'm not a huge country fan, but it does fascinate me - first, I didn't grow up with it (go figure as being Austrian), and second the music is incredibly capable of conveying emotions... at least in my opinion.
My grandfather was a WWII vet, and since we were on the "wrong" side of the battle (I can't think of a better wording), we were never allowed to honor or thank our grandparents and parents for fighting - not to start a political discussion, since the reasoning behind it is crystal clear, but it makes it hard to deal with the past this way. Therefore, I do have a lot of respect for how the American population honors their soldiers for doing their job - regardless of the reason for the fighting.
I like the song.

I am not a country fan either, but I'll take those tissues Maui's Mom...

It is almost certain that my BIL, a marine, is going to Iraq next year. All war things make me so anxious. We went to see Flags of Our Fathers, and all I kept thinking about was him being in the middle of something like that. Even now, typing about it is making me get upset. I hate it, and I hate war, and I don't want to see my neice and nephew and sister go through this.

Sorry, off on a tangent. Good song.
