Been Iffy Lately... Anyway, updates... 'Photos'
New Scaley Mate My mother brought home a betta fish from her work that someone else brought in 'for looks' for a party on Thursday. The party was Friday, though Friday morning the betta looked dead so one of the employees was going to flush it down the toilet, but before he went 'bubbye', he 'came back to life'. They figured it was from the cold temps of the night that he became 'dormant', and so my mother brought him home Friday night. It wasn't until Tuesday that I learned that he is now ours... He had food sitting next to the vase in the morning, I had left, and when I came back, I had talked to my mother over the phone, and I asked if I should feed him since he didn't get any food on Tuesday. I went to go get the food container, but the little rascal (cat(s)) stole it and hid it away, for god knows where! Anyway, the above photos you can also see the vase that he is livin in at the moment (might want to get that snowman removed... maybe put something else a bit smaller in its place instead), and a not so good photo of the bette himself. The link will take you to the album where you can click on the thumbnails to view larger photos... Little Creations Ok, another update... Here is a small image, and a link to a few things created... Above in the photo is a little something that I put together for Noel, that is, if she enjoys them! If not, well I guess it was a pressie for me afterall to amuse me for the time being.... Otherwise, on overall updates, I've got some bad news... On Sunday, I lost my little boy bourke, whom I remember handling when he was still in the nest... He was only about 2yrs old, and sadly to say, found him gone... I'm not sure what happened, and I can't find out, either. The other birds are doing well, though I am concerned about Cosmo, as he's been getting older (10yrs???) and really is less active than he use to be a few years ago, but I guess that might be one thing of 'old age'. As far as myself goes, I've been iffy since Saturday, or Sunday, not really myself, and not really interested in doing anything (one of the reason's why I haven't been around... anything that I use to do is 'time consuming' and it 'wastes my time' not spent doing anything... if ya know what I mean). I haven't even gone X-Mas shopping for anyone, and was suppose to go in the middle of the night (a couple hours ago) but hadn't made up my mind then so I'll probably do it next night, hopefully just not 3am like my mother and roommate did the other night to go grocery shopping...

Monica, those are really cute toys! I like the foot toys in the picture. I think my birds would like those too! You know, there are lots of birds in shelters who would love to have a toy to play with. Many shelters try to provide toys for the birds, but with their budgets stretched to the max, if it's a choice between buying toys or food, the food wins out. Have you thought of maybe making some up and donating them to a local bird rescue, or looking on-line for bird rescues? I know that LynJupiter on this board runs a bird rescue.
The reason I mention this, is because you sound a little down. I know that the holiday season can be kind of overwhelming and this can effect our emotions. Doing something nice, but not necessarily very expensive is a good way to give yourself a lift. Just picture the birds in the rescue getting a new toy! Lots of joy there! that is a really pretty Betta. We have a beautiful red and blue male. We had a female and they were even seen mating the other day...but we found her dead in one of the plants. don't know if she was egg bound or what. there were no marks on her body and everyone else in the pool is fine. Oh, I should probably explain. We put in a yard pool this year and living in southern NH we needed to close it down before winter. In our bathroom we have a stall shower and a separate garden style tub. When we closed the outside pond down, we lined the inside tub with pond liner, brought some rocks in from the pool and my hubby built a cute little waterfall in the corner of the tub and then we added the pond plants. It's really cute and we have 2 koi, one goldfish, 6 platties and the bettas (well, now just the male). Its a lot of fun to watch them swim among the rocks and plants. We were wondering how our cat would react to it. She was a little curious about the tub pond, until one of the fish came out, scared her and she ran off. I've never seen her near it since. Kind of like how she is scared of our birds!

Thanks Steven. I know about them jumping, and well, from my understanding, he doesn't need the plant and the saying that he only needs to eat everyother day because he eats the roots of the plant, too, is false... heard that from my mother as she got him from someone else... I'm thinking about chucking the plant, though keeping the 'container' that the plant was 'in' to keep a lid on the vase so that the cats wont get him, but I'm not overly sure if I should do this or not... I've read about bettas in the past, though am not completely up to date about them... Thanks again, though, it's appreciated
Holly, I use to be part of a group called TDS, or Teens Doing Stuff, and its a community helping group, where kids paint murals, visit the elderly or even woman that are hiding from an abusive bf or husband. It really does feel great, and I'd probably still be doing it if I still had the transportation. I gave Noel one of the 'lollipops' though she really hasn't payed much attention to it yet, hasn't really chewed on it or anything. She is one more to chew something up that is hanging, than to actually play with it. The foot toys are probably the best toys I've made though they will probably go to waste unless I can find a bird that enjoys chewing them... I may end up giving them to a friends indian ringneck to hopefully give him some joy, as he is the only bird that I know that will chew just about anything where as Noel is more picky. As far as bettas go, I hear that they can be quite difficult to keep at times. Our cats are interested in the betta if say they see him, otherwise though, I've found his food! Do you have any photos of your setup(s)??? They must be wonderfull!
