There is a first time for everything, even if it happens after 30 years of living with birds.
I had to go do a bit of shopping this afternoon for the holidays. When I got home, around 5 ish, I put some water on the stove in a pot, to make my husband some hot chocolate. I came in to help write a newsletter for a local club, on Holiday safety mind you, and when I finished my part at just about 7pm, I went to go start dinner. Thats when I noticed the pot I FORGOT was on the stove for the hot chocolate. Empty, Black and burnt. Lukily I only use the copper bottom pots, so there were no fumes. My exhuast fan is on, But it was a wake up call.....Experienced people do some really dumb things.........................I am one. I posted this so others are reminded NOT to let things boil unattended, and to get rid of your teflon. If I had been using it,(which I never have) I am sure all my birds would be gone.

Something similar happened to me last year. I put some water on to boil, likely for hot chocolate as well. Two or three hours later, I walked into the kitchen to refill my water glass and realized that my favorite teapot (enamel Le Creuset) was ruined. Thankfully, Beetle (and Cricket, my rabbit) were fine... You'd think that I'd know better by now! I didn't like to burn candles in my apt. before I got Beetle for fear of accidentally knocking one over...
Sorry this happened to you Lisa but THANK YOU AGAIN for a VERY important reminder! -e-
