If you havent already...

Try filling a bowl with water and sit it on the table with the bird on your shoulder or hand. Start splashing your other hand in the water and encourage him to come down, maybe even offer treats before or after bath time.

That or put a dinner plate in the bottom of a sink and turn the tap on, see if they show any interest in that. Even stick your own head under the tab while they watch, show them its ok and safe.

How long have you had your zippy?

My Tui came home late November and entirely on his own starting bathing himself in his water dish. He loves it. But, as it got colder he refuses more than he used to. I thought it was because of me, something I did. But, I really just think it is because of the temperature here in Utah.

You are in Canada and I imagine it is colder there these days than Utah. Perhaps you will just have to wait until it gets warmer again for you bird to really WANT a bath on its own.

As long as your bird doesn't hate you for the misting like mine does, I would jut keep up a regular light misting in the warmest time of day and let your bird decide when to take a bath.

The above poster is right about how to go about offering a bath to your bird. Mine loves both approaches. Bathing is instinctive so the bird will do it when it needs it or feels comfortable.

Birds do bathe more often when it's warmer, to cool themselves down. What kind of water bowl are you using? My sun conure will only splash around in a round not-plastic bowl.

bathing

we use a dish about 1.5 inches high, 6 inches long and about 4 inches wide and filled about a quarter inch and also add about a teaspoon of aloe juice 99% organically pure.

Maybe if you do have another bird that does bathe, you could position his cage next to the bird that doesn't, maybe he could get enticed the "monkey see monkey do" way, just a thought........LMB
