I know what you mean about ornery male amazons. But, trust me, for the bite and noise, the M2 is MUCH worse. I wish I had known you wanted a yellow nape. I just placed one 3 months ago. I have found homes for 3 amazons, all three absolutely delightful and beautiful birds, in the last 8 months. Seems I've become the "amazon queen".

You got it. I sometimes want to strangle amazon bashers. I have the most charming YNA here that's not loud, sings beautifully, is sweet as sugar and totally loyal. What more could anyone want out of a bird?
So far, I haven't been offered any zons for about a month. Have no fear, however, for I know that is subject to change. THE OUTLAW

Not only that, but Amazons ALWAYS tell you just what they're thinking. Even my sweet little Elisa has her moments. I have a friend she's not too fond of and she always does her "display" thing to let him know he's about to get nailed if he gets too close. All you have to do is look at one of them and you know where it's lovin's or bloodshed on the horizon.

Hi:
I am new here but wanted to tell you about my experience with a 2.I am part of a rescue in Ontario,Canada. As we were setting up the rescue,3 1/2 years ago, we came across a u2 that was badly neglected. He had been closed in a room by himself for 10 years. He was standing on his only perch(a steel one) because he chewed the wooden ones,he could hardly grip the perch from arthritis by now. They had bought him one toy when they got him but he chewed it so they didn't replace it.His water dish was wired to the cage and never cleaned. He was fed only sunflowed seeds and when the door to his room was open the first reply his owner made was my I didn't know he hade lost so much weight. The dust on the floor was so thick that it covered the toe of your shoes. You couldn't see through the bottom bars of the cage they were so filthy. I kept this wonderful bird that was the most beautiful too you ever saw, after he had several showers.Bought him a 3x4x5 cage and made him a 8x8x8 aviary for the nice weather. He was the most loving, quiet bird I had.He was with me for 3 years, then was take by liver disease from the years of neglect and poor diet. He was a wonder,so there are so terrific rescue toos out there.JUst wanted to add a little different perspective. [img][/img][img][/img] |

Thank you for helping this guy and I am sorry for you loss. I am sorry if I gave the impression that there were not good rescue toos out there. Sydney is a wonderful guy full of energy , a laugh a minute & can be a cuddle bug however I would never suggest to anyone that a male M2 is easy bird to have in your home.

Hey Cathy,
Thanks for your input. I know there are wonderful rescues out there and am so glad you were able to give the 2 a few years of being loved and well cared for. My position is that I would take in a bird in immediate need, regardless of what kind it was, just to be able to find a good home for it. This 2 I was looking at was being well cared for by a lady who obviously loves him. She just has too much on her plate to give all her fids the attention they need and so has made the decision to sell two of them. I agree with you that there are exceptions to every generalization, but do think I shouldn't go looking for a bird I know will not be compatible with my situation/personality. Sounds like any bird would be blessed to be adopted by you.
