Jeeze! Who ever knew beans could be such a problem! Are they worth even feeding?!

Our ekkie and grey like the beans, so I make it for them. I have done both the quick method and the long, overnight soak method. I prefer the overnight soak. I cook mine for 1.5 - 2 hours. I also like to throw in 1-2 cups of brown rice. I feed this maybe 1-2 times a week, just to add variety to their diets. I freeze the mixture in 1-2 cup batches, and just take them out of the freezer the day before i'm going to use them. I even heat them up in the microwave before i serve it. Our birds are so spoiled. :)

from what I understand in a fresh food diet the beans are a main staple. I remember reading that the first time time and "BEANS??!! You gotta be kidding?!" went thru my mind. :)

I lived on things out of crock pots in grad school. Just toss in the beans, some water, then let it cook until it is a lovely mushy mess (can put it in at night and eat for supper when you get home the next day). I put carrots, celery and tomatoes in with my beans for the fids (and barley). If I didn't like it so much spicier I could eat it myself. Sadly, V8 and/or Centrum is not quite the same for us as fresh fruit and veggies, but they help.
