*^%@#@!@ hives

I'm in URGENT need of some hives relief techniques. I'm suffering from an all out body outbreak and have no idea what to do to the bastards (first time having hives)...I am going to the doctor on Wednesday, but until then I need some homemade relief techniques. I've been awake now for 4 hours just dying so I've got an ice compress and rubbing it everywhere seems to help. I also took a nice dose of benadryl which should be knocking me out soon, but I need to know A) How to best keep from itching when they come around and B) Any ideas what may be causing them? I'm not stressed, haven't changed laundry detergents, and am eating the same crap that I always do.
Any help here is mucho appreciated.

*****Are you short of breath?
If you are, I hope that by now you've 911'd or went to ER. If not, then GO NOW!
Kevin, do not wait until WEdnesday. Go today, ASAP. If they are that bad, it is not something to take likely. "probably" it is nothing. But hives of that nature are caused by something and it is masochistic to forego relief when you could have it now.
A) will be rectified by going to the doctor. probably a dose pak of steroids will relieve it. Preparation H can help the inflammation and itching. (Even if it's not used as directed on the label. LOL) I used it for chiggers on my arm and it helps.
B)Causes?? You covered the immediate ones. My wife suddenly became allergic to cats. Had em all of her life, then one day started sneezing/blowing itching. Can't get around em now.
But at this point you need relief.
Hope this helps man, keep us posted.

I agree... go to a "doc in the box" and you can get some antihistamines and steroids! Caladryl, corn starch, lots of remedies, but it sounds like you don't have a case that OTC products will help much. Feel better soon!

Go to the doctor asap! True Hives are or can be very dangerous! nerve damage & eye troubles can be permanent!

If is an alleric response then the anti-histamines from over the counter remedies section (only for itchy skin - not runny nose) - 2 instead of 1 every couple of hours is what to do - & then ease off then to 1 every few hours etc.

If it is an allergic response - go over everything you've done in the past few days. it could be food or detergent or fabric softener or new clothes (fire retardant/starch) etc. it could also be dust - that's what gets me & it was a sudden response as well. Wanted to itch my skin off & the skin got all bumpy & there where little weepy sores were I scratched.

Good luck - but see a doctor if you think it is hives.

To stop itching - cold water pored over the area is a refreshing remedie you have to repeat but at least it isn't going to smell or stain your clothes. I also use Aveeno's anti-itch lotion - they have 2 - one has calamine in it the other is menthol based. My body like the first mostly but i've had good results with the 2nd on my legs.

a bath with epson salts. the epson salts will help draw out the culprit. try not to itch them. them more you itch them the more hives you'll get. or even better go to a pharamist. they have some great ideas. they know more about drugs than that of a dr. a dr only has about 6-10 hrs of drug class were as a pharmaist has had several years.

the benadryl spray is good too....but-I agree with the previous posters, don't wait until weds. get to an ER or walk-in Doc and get some prescribed care. If this was happening to one of your fids-you would not wait!@!

WOA! KvnBand is now named "Itchy & Scratchy" ... I hope you feel better soon and you figure out what triggered it in terms of allergies.
