Apartment ratings??

http://www.apartmentratings.com

Can you really go by these?? I'm terrified because according to them, every affordable place for us to live has a cockroach problem (I am TERRIFIED of the huge roaches down here!!) and really loud neighbors.

What do you guys think? I'm so sorry I stumbled across that website

What the heck does all that mean? All you do is enter the apartment complex name, city, and state and it brings up reviews people post.....

I'm just wondering if the posts are legit or if it's just the few people who are unhappy....or I don't know...

I didn't mean to post an "unsafe" link. It seemed fine to me. My firewall didn't block it.

You must have your security set way too high. There is no danger in that site you're only browsing data.

Danger comes from clicking links that take you to bogus sites or giving out personal info. Do you get that warning on every site you visit?

Hi I found the ratings to be fairly accurate. Problem is that most people dont rate so you may have an imbalance. But I think it's helpful to read the ratings, then keep an eye out for the trend in a complex. Also ask people who live there when you're walking around.

I found the warnings to be pretty true in Pa and Florida too.

What you're forgetting is that MOST people go to a site like that ONLY if something is wrong. Most don't take the time out to do it if everything is fine - therefore, you're going to almost always have more bad reviews than good.

This is a good point and kind of what I was thinking.

Is it possible to have a cockroach infestation in one apartment and not some others, though?? I mean, obviously we're not going to be looking at "project" type living.

Missi - it depends on how well the building exterminates. We live in a Manhattan building that has never once had roaches/waterbugs & only one incident of a mouse. The building is on a strict monthly extermination plan so we don't get anything.
