Do you think this works?
Black & Decker Ultrasonic Electronic Pest & Insect Repeller. Just in case for my new place.....
http://store3-store.stores.yahoo.net/verelpesrep4.html What do you think? Seems too good to be true? Or legit? |

Did you get a new place yet? I'm glad that electronic vibration works on mice but it doesn't work on roaches or palmetto bugs.

I have those in quite a few rooms now... I had, ahem, a bit of a mouse problem in the building and was really squicked out by it. I didn't want to set traps (humane or otherwise) in the event that Beetle got into them (he's only 50 grams!). They seem to be working -- we've had no evidence of mice since I've started using them in my apartment.
I use 2 per medium-sized room (as a precaution) and have 3 in my kitchen (it's on the large side). Both Beetle and my pet rabbit have not shown any ill effects from the devices. Make sure that the device ISN'T blocked by something; e.g. don't put one in an outlet that rests behind your couch. You can find them w/ outlets so you can plug your lamps and such into them... or you can find them w/ nightlights, which is nice for a hallway or even your kitchen. When you get a moment, you might want to do a search for natural alternatives to pest management. Something there are simple things that you can do to keep the buggies out! I'm w/ you: roaches are nasty. I worked at a swimming pool supply one summer in a strip mall. There was a crab restaurant, a Chinese/Japanese restuarant, the pool store, an electronics repair shop, a mattress store and a large pet store. You can't believe the roach problem we had! You'd think with vats of chlorine tabs we'd be safe but no... the roaches would practically come out and chat w/ the customers :x Best wishes, -e-

My cousin lives on Maui and she says bugs just happen there. Nothing you can do about them but let the geckos live in the house too.

Gini, are you sure it doesn't work on roaches or the disgusting palmetto bugs?!! It says on the site that it repels roaches and spiders. Have you used this? Should I avoid it then?
ejw829, I have cockroach poision baits in every corner of my apartment right now and it worries the heck out of me that Jasmine might get into them Tullysmom, I don't know. I've only been down here 2 years. Sure a few bugs here and there definitely happen and, yes, all the bugs are MUCH larger in semi-tropical areas, but I just worry about having them infested under the sink or in a closet or something. That is NOT normal for living in "paradise". The thing is, even if you have a sparkling cleana place...if the people in the apartment above, below, or beside you are dirty and have a roach problem, you will too. I just want to keep them all AWAY! The roaches down here are the size of the Geckos down here!! |

LOL Yep they are the size of volkswagons!
Hey Missi,
I feel your anxiety over the roaches. Every year we take a vaca to N. Fort Myers and I gotta tell you, the first time I saw one of those palmetto bugs, I almost dropped dead! They are huge! My family goes nuts with me when it's time to come home. "Ok everyone, shake out your bags, stomp off your feet, make sure we haven't brought a stowaway home!" |
