Valentines Day is coming! What are you getting your luv'd one?

I was just curious what all of you might be doing for that "someone" special this Valentines Day...

NOTHING!!!

Our anniversary is February 5th, and it was our last one before we get married in July and change anniversaries, so we had a whole day of fun and got each other gifts and then promised not to get anything today. We usually only celebrate the anniversary, anyways, and he's working late.

Some woman seem to get men... some don't... However there seems to be no man that ever gets a woman... Yet we still love 'em?

only ones that benefit from v-day are the fids....

Nino - he'll get his fav sweet potato dinner and i'll try to work from home in the morning since he loves to come out in the mornings so much

Valo - special snuggle time with mom and his full 30min in the bathroom before night night (i have to scritch his head while he preens)

Bella - will make a nice toy for her to destroy and let the girl tear up some more of my hair ties (she loves snipping them open and then jumps down to hang from my hair)

I didn't see this till just now or I would have posted.

My daughter came to me yesterday and wished me a Happy Valentines Day.
I'm still having major back & leg probs, but I told her I wished her the best day ever.

She told me, "You already gave me the best Valentines ever"
"I did?" I replied slightly confused.
She walked back into her room and came back out with something.
She said "Yeah, when you gave me this" and laid it on the table.
"You're the greatest, Daddy. You know, you should show it to your friends on the Net."

LOL! OK I will....

Anyway, I did this for LA a couple of years ago now

I made a simple, center opening card for the outside. The inside part at the back/bottom (the 3rd pic) has the image I drew & used as a template for the middle section.

The middle part is a 3D magnetic "hangable".
I used 2 duplicate white felt bits for the body.
I split a gold puffball for the mane and a length of gold silk tassle for the forelock and glued them between the body halves to hold them in place.
Then cut closed-cell red foam into 2 hearts.
4 small slits on the one "top" heart hold the corners of card in the center.
I made the wings from a combination of pink feathers on the inside of the wing, with flights feathers of white. Then I glued together the 2 red hearts, sandwiching the base of the wings and the body between them.

A bit of black felt and a bobble eye was added as well as black marker outlines to the face & legs to distinguish features from the body. Last but not least, a few decorative stick-on jewels & stars were glued on for flair.
Finally, I put 6 round magnets on the back.

I feel very honoured that she's still so proud of this.
She usually has it stuck on her closet door.


I tried very hard to get this year gift together in time, but the pain I've been in from my back & leg have made it very difficult to be creative.

LOL! If you're interested in what it was supposed to be,...

Lori-Anne had assignment for school last week to come up with a quick skit idea (1 page) about "acceptance".
She had this idea about a young Cheetah who was a little different from the other cubs and wasn't accepted by them. So we talked and I helped her "brainstorm" some ideas about what she wanted to do with it.

Well, her concept has been running through my head like a little animated movie. So I thought why don't I write it as a short story. I've done some research and selected the characters names from various African legends & mythology. I've been fleshing it out some -tweaking/rearranging the characters & dialog as well as planning the logistics of some of the various scenes. I've got about a dozen pages written with maybe another 2-5 pages rattling around in my noggin.

Once the story is completely set, I want to draw a bunch of pics of some of the characters in the scenes and add them in.

Who knows, maybe when I'm done I'll have something worth actually publishing as a kids book.


As to what I did with my wife....Sorry, but it's one of those "If I told ya, I'd have to kill ya" type things, so for your own safety, it's gonna remain a secret.

yep, she's been sick in bed since and will most likely be sick in bed all weekend! (and Monday is a federal holiday - we have it off - yup... she'll most likely still be sick....)
