USA Made Stainless Steel Bird Cages?

This is my first thread ever, so I hope I do this right!

Although this is my first thread, I've read a TON of content on here and this forum seems awesome! I look forward to being a part of your community.

So on to my question: Are there any manufacturers that that make thier cages here in the USA? Preferrably one that offers their cages in stainless steel?

I have read a TON about toxic levels of lead & zinc in powder-coated cages, and if the rumors are true even some of the reputable brands have tested at unacceptable levels for lead & zinc. Therefore, I am determined to go with stainless steel. So that leads to my next problem; according to what I've read a very large percentage of imported stainless steel cages do not hold up very well. Most likely because they are either made of lower grades of stainless steel, or they are just plain 'knock offs'. So I would really feel safest going with a stainless steel cage that's made in the USA. Even if it cost me a bit more than the other imported brands cost.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Juli

If you don't have your heart set on stainless steel, my HQ cage came with levels WAY under the recommended level. And it's holding up quite nicely. Just a thought.

Hi Juli, I'm new here too. Plus, it looks like we have the same cage buying dilema too!

I'm getting a Legacy Cage when they come out in a couple of weeks. I found them by actually searching the web for usa made stainless steel cages. They are a brand new company, and it looks like their products will be top notch. You can find them at LegacyCages.com.

Like I said, I'm already planning on getting one of the large models when they come out, so if you'd like to see pictures or get my opinion on them after I get mine (and before you get yours) just let me know!

Good luck Juli!

Cathy

I have the Avian Adventures hacienda. Although it's made in Malaysia it's an amazing cage! Heavy gauge SS, hand polished, easy locking mechanism, feeding system works really well. My only complaint is the bowls they provided are too light duty for my macaw. He bent/broke them very quickly and I had to buy replacements from a different company.
I've just adopted a GW macaw and will buy another AA cage once I can find it again. The store where I bought my first one doesn't have anymore available right now :(
I've heard that SS is getting harder to get therefor more expensive to buy :(

Barb,

According to the folks at Avian Adventures, they will not be manufacturing SS Cages anytime in the near future. When I first started looking, I was considering their Hacienda Cage. Although I have to say I expect the Legacy Cages to be as good or better. And it makes me feel good that they're made in the USA too! :)

That's too bad about the Avian Adventures.
I've visited the Legacy Website and those cages look like the Liberty cages that were made in the USA. By the time I had looked into buying one of those they had stopped manufacturing them. I guess they must have changed the name and started making them again???
When I read the specs on the large model it says the height is only 56". I think that's too short for a large macaw.
What about Animal Environments cages? I hear they make a SS cage???

Barb,

I've talked with the owners of Legacy extensively and they definitely have never owned another manufacturing company before. They used to own a very succesful online cage retail company & sold it to launch their own ss cage line. They didn't own Liberty Cages, or any other brand name before this.

A couple other things I've learned from them in the past month that you may want to know:

1. The specs on their cage line up page are going to change once they release the cages. Those are just estimates, and they will publish updated & accurate stats when the cages are available to order.

2. They are coming out with a cage even larger than the the largest model shown on that cage line up sheet. They are estimating that it will be out no later than May 1. It will be for the people with Hyacinths and other really large parrots like yourself.

Hope that helps!

Cathy

Cathy, thanks so much for the tip on legacy cages. They look incredible, and I just requested to be on their notification list. They wrote a nice note back right away confirming that they've put me on the list! I'm SOOOOOOO excited to see their cages!!!

Lisa, are you sure those freedom cages are made in the usa? I read every word on their website and it never says that once. You'd think if they were they'd say so on their website!?

Thanks everyone for your replies & posts!

Juli

Juli

I know the person who started the company.
