Talking Atkins anyone?

Just curious; there were a few of us going on diets for our New Year's resolutions. I am on my second week of Atkins and have lost a whopping 3 pounds! Anyone else out there doing Atkins or something similar? Am hoping to get a support group sort of thing going to keep us all in check! Don't be shy - heck, I have 50 pounds to lose!

That's true; didn't think of it that way! I have to be patient as it took me over 3 years to put this weight on so I should be happy it won't take me so long to take it off

I have put on so much weight it is totally unbelievable. I don't want to think how much weight I have to loose. I have started cutting down and am now going swimming twice a week and to the gym twice a week!!! Well that's what I say now. Only started last week and just from swimming twice and the gym once I have so much more energy.

I hope I keep it up this time!!!

Laurie - I am so proud of you! And yes - I was part of that conversationa and have to do something NOW! I am officially postponing my wedding at this point! I will check out the atkins thing tonight. Was on weight watchers and did lose, but stopped and of course gained again. Very frustrating! But I am willing to jump on the band wagon with you and give it a try - yet again! :icon_smil

I'm in! I started doing the traditional low fat-low cal diet in mid Nov, then switched to Atkins at New Years. I won't go into specifics on figures but I have a midway goal that would put me back to what I was when I was a professional belly dancer in the Middle East and an ultimate goal of being what I was when I was 21-and at that age I had done a bit of catwalk modeling, was never photogenic enough for print ads.

I have already reached 33% of my midway goal and 22% of my ultimate goal. I had plateaued out around Christmas but the Atkins kick started me again. I expect to achieve the midway goal by end April and the ultimate one by September since statistically people tend to slow down as they get closer to their ultimate goals. So that can be an option for people who are a bit shy, just say what percentage you have achieved. For example if you want to lose 20 pounds and you lose 4, then you are at 20%.

I'm going to stay on induction as long as possible, it hasn't been too much of a hardship to stay under 20 grams of carbs...no pizza or pasta is hard though.

I have been working out every day-a bit of cardio and then on alternate days either arms and abs or glutes and legs because I heard you aren't supposed to exercise the same groups of muscles 2 days in a row. Has anyone else heard that? I tried Pilates but that doesn't seem so good for fat burning, I am having more luck with aerobics and then the muscle training.

Atkins does work, however, if you go off the plan you gain back twice as much! Am hoping to lose and keep it off this time!

Tiki, one of my brothers (I have 7 living ones) lives in Brisbane and he used to do body building, still goes to the gym now though and has done so since he was 13 and now is 31. He told me you work one set of muscles one day and another set the next then have a day of rest. I would work out 5 days a week and have my 2 days off over the weekend.

I agree with your brother Tracey. I used to be into that deeply too and lately have gotten back into it, to a lesser degree but the rules are the same......
