Out of curiousity...

I was reading an article about the rescues that held the pets during the Hurricane Katrina disaster.....It said there was high security at most of the rescues because "animal rights" groups were trying to get in and let the animals loose. Why would they want to do that? I don't want to start a debate what-so-ever, I'm just curious.

some animal "rights" people dont believe in pets. they are of the mind that all creatures must be free.

That seems, well, stupid, no offense. I once belonged to a bird forum (I quit because of the bashing) and people were getting angry at me, saying that I should let my bird loose to be free. They also said I was "a cruel person" for keeping a bird. I couldn't believe these people! They didn't even want us to have dogs and fish! It was truely crazy...

Oh, I hear that sometimes! Some people are fine with keeping a dog, cat, rabbit or horse but if they hear that you have a parrot, it's all down hill. "You should NEVER cage a bird!" they cry... mind you, the folks that have said that to me are happy to crate their dog for 10 hours at a clip or declaw their cat...

It's a shame, regardless: those poor animals were traumatized enough...

OMG you have a Grey..........where have I been?!

That's terrible. People with such strong opinions like that just need to keep it to themselves. Yea...in a perfect world!

Agreed. I'm not sharing my opinion on extreme animal activists, just in case there are any lurking here, because I do not wish to start a debate.

We brought Echo home on Sunday. He is so sweet!!!! You can see my post under greys. I will get some pics of him tonight. I love him to death! He chatters and has let me pets him and give little scritches 8)
However, I used the Ekkie Fund to buy him, but hey, I think it is worth the wait (although I still really want a female eclectus). He is such a doll!!!

Agree here too. Pet parrots have nice, large cages, plenty of out of the cages time, good diets, and are generally very happy. Compare this to the person saying this who has an overweight dog, who eats terrible food, never gets walked, it is just plain sad!

I don't want to start a fight here either, I hate offending people... Just my two cents...
